The generic name for Valtrex is valacyclovir, not Valvirex.
Some people find it very helpful for herpes outbreaks, but there are also other medications that are very helpful like acyclovir and famciclovir. They all work about the same. Some people prefer brand name Valtrex or it's generic, while others use a different drug. Brand names are almost always more expensive and sometimes are not covered by insurance. Generic drugs are usually always dispensed by the pharmacy unless the doctor specifically writes for brand name only.
I have personally never tried Valtrex or it's generic, but I have tried Famvir (famciclovir) and acyclovir and they both work really well. I currently use acyclovir when I get herpes outbreaks.

It works exactly the same!!! just less expensive!! my valtrex costs me 40 dollars per. perscription---so valtrex is pricey...
she's right ......acyclovir works well too---I have a year perscription for that. but since i'm preggers, my ob gave me valtrex....
