I agree with you, I get really bored with it. I think the spanish way with tapas is the best.

The culinary scene in the UK is a heck of a lot better than it was tewnty years ago, inasmuch as the UK has finally learned how to cook vegetables. They always used to be boiled into a greenish mush.
There is a much better choice of food in our shops and supermarkets, fresh produce gains increasing accessability through farmers markets and sectors of the British public have a much better awareness of food.
Traditional British food is not bland, and many herbs are used to enhance the flavour of our national dishes. British food, for the most part, is plain - unadorned by sauces and strong spices. This enables the strong tastes of our best natural meats to be enjoyed. Welsh Lamb, Aberdeen Angus beef and our seafood is some of the best in the world.
Unfortunately, we operate a culture that is work-oriented, in consequence many workers do not take a lunch break, so a sandwich at the desk is the best they can manage. We also do not pay our all of our chefs what they deserve, and many pub-chains are content to buy in cook-chill/cook-freeze products where the only culinary skill needed is to be able to switch on a microwave, so they do not even need a chef.
The solution is in our own hands - if you get a lunchbreak, then take it, if your pub only offers cook-chill, go elsewhere, or cook at home. Buy real meat from an independent butcher, not mass-produced stuff in clingfilm from supermarkets. Learn about food, be prepared to question food.Live to eat, don't eat to live!

I cook loads of differnt types of food, try to go for something different each day of the week. Some days I'll just have grilled or steamed chicken or fish with baby potatos and veg, other days I'll go for italian, meditteranian, mexican, or just make up a recipe of my own... I'm not overweight. I don't like bland food, I find it difficult to eat - I prefer to use lots of fresh ingredients, herbs, spices, and exciting extras like olives, yummy!!

Are you kidding? The proportion of overweight Americans IS higher than in the UK. They have taken the population differences into account.
And there are all kinds of different restaurants and foods here- it's not like that's all we eat.
You're either joking, or an idiot.

The only reason I can think of to put too much spice on anything, is cover the taste of meat that isn't fresh.
The UK is only developing an obesity problem because of american culture seeping in. Think TV(specifically remote controls and cable, Fast food, drive through.... ad nauseum.

Yawn - I could go into the merits of being the asian food capital of europe, or even correct you on your use of statistics when comparing obesity rates between the us and the uk.
To be honest I can't be bothered though - I try not to spend too much time answering the UK bashing questions

It depends on what you are eating...not all British food is bland. It depends also on WHO is cooking it. Ever tried Apply Bramley Sausages? (I get the veg ones) and they are FABULOUS!! I have never tried anything like them and the only place I could find them was in ENGLAND. I miss them.

In USA also most European restaurents give only bland food and a lot of sweet in most foods(too much of calories getting deposited in Adipose tissues) .Only Asian/Indian food is having all the six tastes-sweet,sour,salty,pungent,astringent and BITTER(bitter gourd) also. Here People generally complain Indian foods are very Spicy.
P.S.:-pungent and Astringent -missing in the main post.
