My cousin is moving out of state in a few weeks and the only day she can get together is on the 22nd. We are throwing her a "Going Away" party. However, this day also happens to be my other cousin's birthday (and the host's daughter). She isn't actually celebrating her birthday during the party - it is more of a "Going Away" party; however, we don't want her to feel left out. Is it possible to celebrate both parties at once? How would we handle the decor? Half Birthday, half Bon Voyage? Or we could do a Luau maybe? I am confused. We just aren't sure how to do both so no one gets their feelings hurt. They are both in their early twenties. How can we have one party for two celebrations?

It can be done tastefully. Two cakes, preferably two different kinds. (White, chocolate, etc...) That way when somebody might ask why someone takes a slice of the other cake they can say "I just prefer white more than chocolate.) And give equal time to the b-day person and the going-away person. Raise a toast separately to both people and give a little speech for each. I'm sure everyone will have a blast and nobody will feel left out.

We did this when my eldest son earned his Eagle Scout. The ceremony was two days away from my inlaws 50th wedding anniversary. We planned the Eagle ceremony but sent out separate invitations to friends and family stating that we would also be celebrating the anniversary. We had a cake and cards for them on a separate table. Not only were they the proud grandparents of an eagle scout, but were surprised and flattered that their friends and relatives all honored them as well.

I think you can celebrate both a goign away and bday at the same time. As long as the people who the party is for arent the kind that's goign to be upset for a celebration not dedicated to just them. Honestly i think it coudl be a fun time. Good luck!
