I just read an article about a new drug introduced by Phifezer called "Chantix". Supposedly it helps smokers to stop smoking by working w/some receptors in the brain that trigger a craving. Has anyone tried it? What was your experience w/it? Would you recommend it? It's a little pricy at about $169 online........thanks!

Wow, awesome! Sounds promising. I am interested in this for my boyfriend. He has smoked for about 20 years - 1 pack a day. He has a genuine interest in quitting; he's even gone cold turkey for a couple of days, but he gets extremely crabby and ends up smoking again. Is there a good web site where I can purchase it from at a reasonable price?

Thanks!

Yes, I personally have used it. I have been smoke free for 6 1/2 months now and I smoked for 8 years. You take 1 weeks worth of doses while smoking and then on the 7th day your not supposed to smoke. Then you keep taking a once daily pill for however long you need up to 6 months. I had little to no cravings and NO WITHDRAWAL symptoms such as headache, crabby, etc. I just ate a little more. The only side effects that bothered me where crazy movie like dreams and stomach upset sometimes. It was well worth it. You can take it up to 6 months to help you quit. I only needed to take it for 2 months though. I still have cravings once in a while but why start again the nicotine is out of my system and the craving only lasts seconds to a couple minutes. Chantix is very popular now. It works!

I started Chantix two weeks ago. I still smoked the first week but noticed by the 4th day the desire greatly decreased. Now, I am lucky if I can stomach two cigarettes a day. Today, I woke up and wanted none so this may be the first day without any. The first week I broke out in a rash and took benedryl 50 mg. for two nights, now it is gone. I have been a smoker for 35 + years and this is it for me. I hear this is a miracle drug and I am going to quit. I plan to stay on it the whole year as some have had to do that. Try IT!

FDA say that Chantix is superior than other medicines like Zyban (bupropion).
But, is very important to be motivated to stop smoking. You have to choose a "quit date" to start the treatment.

You can find more information about Chantix here:
