As an Atheist I've often wondered why I'm not depressed.
But I'm not.
According to theists, I have no direction in my life. But I do.
According to theists, I have no morality. But I do.
According to theists, I should be wallowing in self-pity and misery. But I'm not.
I'm happy, sucessful and very much in love with my family and my life.
Everything that theists tell me I shouldn't be.
How about that? Yet more on the list of things that theists are wrong about.

Doug,
so, your answer to someone's assertion that there is no god, is to threaten them?
What a disgusting death-cult you belong to.
Honestly, you have my pity.

you're not depressed because no one is telling you to feel guilty about everything. isn't it great? i'm often baffled at how theists tend to think that in order to be at peace with oneself that you have to believe and have faith. i'm totally at ease with the majority of my life and if things go wrong, things go wrong. i deal with it logically. i think a big problem with some sects is that their ideas place so much guilt on basic human biological functions, like sexuality, that people can't cope with what their feeling because they're told it's wrong. therefore, they get depressed. it's really depressing to think about huh ;-)

I'm in the same boat as you buddy. It is a common stereotype that atheist are depressed. Some are and some are not. Just be glad you don't need a fairytale book and a invisible man in the sky to live a good life.

I don't have any idea why you're not depressed, but am glad to hear you're not. Depression sucks.

I'm a theist, and I don't think you should be in love with your life. I think you have direction, but don't think its a very good direction.

I think happiness and success are completely void of any real meaning, to be honest.

It seems as though you're practicing some selective hearing in your conversation with theists, or you're conversing with some fairly shallow theists.

Hope all goes well on your happy, successful trip.

Worldly success has nothing to do with it. You are blind, blind to the ETERNAL GOD . .. my best advice is to seek HIM at Catholic Mass, read the Bible.

Psalms 105:4  Seek ye the Lord, and be strengthened: seek his face evermore.

You've taken the first few timid steps to ask, "Why?" maybe you are really an agnostic who is still deciding if there is TRUTH in all this religion stuff?

If that's you, then go to Catholic Mass, read the Bible say a few sincere prayers from your heart . . .and believe that GOD will answer them . .. GOD is pouring out the HOLY SPIRIT over the land today . .. ask and you shall receive of THE HOLY SPIRIT . ..

-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

You're none of those things because all of those things that you listed are things that were completely MADE UP by Christians to tell each other to make themselves feel superior. It has nothing to do with atheists, it has nothing to do with reality, and no atheists were consulted in the making up of that nonsense.

You don't need God and religion to be a successful contributor to society. I know I surely don't.

Looking forward to your last moments on this earth, which will arrive much, much sooner than you think?
