I was thinking a dirt cake might be cute b/c my boyfriends b'day is on friday the 13th... but then I thought "if someone made me a dirt cake on my birthday i'd be kind of pissed"... but he says friday the 13th is lucky b/c he was also born on a friday the 13th... I don't really know what to do now.
I could make him a cake for his birthday and then a dirt cake for the party... he'll be 23... i'm making this too big of a deal!!
Ramble, ramble, ramble....

I think whatever you do he will LOVE!!! He is lucky to have someone who has put so much thought into his day. I make cakes and yes they can taste good but dirt cake is very yummie too!!! (I would not be mad if someone made me a dirt cake for any of my birthdays=) I think that you came up with the idea of the dirt cake so do it. You can still make the top of it look cute. Find something unique to put it in. Since it is the summer you could still put it in a cool pale and set the pale on a tray or a cookie sheet that is full of brown sugar. Put fun sand things on the brown sugar and make a whole theme out of it. You could even write a "love" note in the sand for him. How cute would that be??? Why do 2 cakes, anything you do for him I am sure he will love. Good luck and follow your heart! Oh us Italians think the 13th is Good Luck! Have fun!

Why don't you make both? Present him first a dirt cake so he'll see the joke...and then give him the real cake so there's no chance he'll get upset because you still gave him a real cake!
I think it's really cool his bday is on Friday the 13th.

I am 25...and I can tell you that a 23 yr old guy doesn't care that much. I personally would love to get a dirt cake on my birthday. I get sick of the same old thing every year.

I can imagine it would be kind of shitty having your birthday on Friday the 13th...so why not make him a kitty litter cake? I've personally never made this, but my cousin did and got quite the response from it. Click on the link for pics and instructions. Good luck!
Edit: And you don't have a sense of humour...lighten up, it was meant to be fun!

I think the two cake idea would be best. You and your bf both know you're making the dirt cake because it's his favorite, but that could be misinterpreted by other guests.
Oh, and another cute idea, is to use gummy worms and a trowel (a new, clean one of course). Happy B-D to him!

Which does he like better? My husband is not a fan of cake, but he loves dirt cake. So dirt cake for his birthday would make him very happy.

Make HIS favorite cake. Friday 13 notwithstanding.
Making sport of someone's birthday is not a nice way to tell them you love them.

Use the recipe on the pudding kit for pie filling. it particularly is stiffer and could paintings extra effective as filling for cake. Use the chocolate pudding combination and positioned overwhelmed oreos in it for "dirt". that's all you prefer ot do.
