being vegetarian is more than just "not eating meat".
it's an ideal that you take on as part of you. it's not just about eating healthy- which is a great benefit but it's about really thinking where your food comes from, what that particular animal ate before you ate it.
about the cruelty that comes from that the chicken you ate was once alive and was caged with thousands of others sitting in it's own piss and crap causing tons of green house gasses and diseases. or how the cow is shot in the brain and left to die on the killing floor, it's called a killing floor for a reason- the whole industry FEEDS OFF DEATH. Vegetarianism to me is about thinking for yourself and not listening to the uneducated people who are so quick to eat death and post comments on here as the above have. it's about ignoring ignorance is bliss and really taking time to think about the whole concept of that mcmurder burger you just bought. read fast food nation it's a gem about the fast food industry and meat industry .i say if you want to be vegetarian you need to to it for your own beliefs and for yourself .if you do it for the wrong reasons there's no way you'll ever stick to it. somethings are harder to quit when it becomes your life's passion and it's something you believe in.

Veggie since January, New Year's Resolution. Don't miss meat one bit. I swear to you, eggplant's a life saver! The best thing is, I feel much better, no cholesterol, getting all my carbohydrates! And guess what? I haven't put a bit of tofu in my mouth since. Honestly I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. Read what the American Dietetic Association has to say about a vegetarian diet, perfectly healthy if practised adequately (all diets, if they are to work have to be practised adequately, anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar or is ignorant). I've switched my milk to soy milk, which tastes the same, bleh...I neer have been a big milk drinker, the soy milk is basically a substitute ingredient for anything that calls for milk. Try it for a month, no meat, if you can't do it, well then you can always go back (though there's no reason too!) and if it works and you can continue, all the better! I'm not here to criticise anyone for what they eat, only to suggest that there are other options. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

Decide for yourself.
I am vegetarian and I "stepped foot on a farm", some of my uncles were farmers. I went on a field trip to a pig farm when I was in grade school. I saw a dead pig lying on the ground, with flies on it, and I refused to eat hot dogs and ham after that. It might have been my first step towards giving up meat altogether. I have also seen chickens get their heads chopped off, it grossed me out. I also drive by a slaughterhouse sometimes and the smell is horrible.

Its just a lifestyle people choose. Some believe in an ideology that its cruel to kill animals for food or clothing when there r other options and for some its a religious matter.
For those who say vegan/vegetarian food doesnt taste good: they simply havent tasted good vegan/vegetarian food!
For those who think its insufficient for good health: they shud know that there r lots of cultures in the world like India where 30-40% people r vegetarian and really healthy and happy!

Im a vegetarian, my lifestyle has sort of changed. It's much healthier being one although your body does need protein from meat. But i decide not to eat any meat. I take vitamins instead. My reason for becoming a vegetarian is for better health and because i care for animals. Im against animal abuse.

About 6% of all Americans do not eat red meat; and about 2% are vegan. Don't believe me? Google it. I'm a vegetarian for environmental reasons; it's the single best thing you can do for the environment. That's why big-time environmentalist Prius-driving Leo diCaprio is a vegan. Most of my friends are vegetarian because they want to lose weight and have only a fractyion of the risk that meat-eaters have of most cancers, heart disease, Alzheimers, and a bunch of other stuff.

Don't let your girlfriend tell you to be veggie, doesn't sound right to me !
( unless she's Cameron Diaz in which case do whatever she says ! )
Most veggies are such for moral reasons, its so they are not part of the cruelty, pain, torture and death paid for by meat-eaters
deboyfresh: i think you'll find that was vegan.
