This is a big money idea. Scale down to budget. Do a movie premier theme. Have a red carpet outside with a few video camares and "reporters". Have them interview your guests and family as they arrive. Your guests can be who ever they want to be or be themselves. It will make for great captured memories. If you can wing it, have a crowd cheering your guests as they arrive. Inside you can go completely deva. Have a personal attendant wait on you hand and foot all night. Remember to respect them. Have your DJ page big celebrities all night. Things like, "Would Paris Hilton please meet the police detectives at the front door." Be sure your DJ is up to the task. Dancing, cake and toasts should cover an hour or so. While that is going on have the videographer use digital equipment so they can put together a 10 - 15 minute "movie" and play the red carpet interviews to close the night. Have a limo waiting for you and leave the party as if you are the queen of the world.
This is my daughters sweet 16 party. Yours will be a blast and your friends will talk about it for years.

You should pick a theme then the rest will be easy - like if you pick a movie - everyone gets popcorn and soda, hot dog or nachos and the movie. If you pick a bowling alley - everyone should dress 50's and you should serve hot dogs and hamburgers with cola and shakes - it really will be simpler and more fun if you pick a theme and go from there.
