like you know soy "meats", "chicken" patties, soy "milk", etccc almost alll the brands do that and it makes me mad why can't they just make NEW names instead of mocking carnivore's foods?..is there a reason behind why they do this? cause the word "meat" alone makes me think of dead furry animals :[

People like to eat what they are used to. That's all there is to it.

If someone is raised on a vegan diet without any meat substitutes, they won't have any desire to eat meat or its analogs. People raised veg in India think that the whole idea is repulsive.

Sorry, but no one is born with an instinct to eat meat. That's why people are always mixing meat with fruit or vegetables to get babies to swallow the sh*t. They know it doesn't belong in their body but their parents force it on them.

P.S.- Just because you WANT to be a Marine, doesn't mean you have a single f*ckin clue what you are talking about or that you can tell people how to be American.

I think it is to help describe the product. You have a good point there, and even as someone who eats meat I wonder that. I do enjoy having vegan and vegetarian meals from time to time. But I would like to try something that is not fake steak. Something that is truly vegan or vegetarian, not based on a meat dish.

Until we are more comfortable with vegetarianism, we need to know what kind of food we're eating. If they didn't call it "chicken" patties, we'd have no idea what to expect inside the box. Have patience. They'll come around!

because beef, chicken, milk etc. have been eaten for a long time so if they call it soy meat or soy milk then people will know what they are talking about I mean if they just named it xenolistic drink who would buy it.

Maybe they do it for the hope that they might convert an carnivore some day or at least get them to try to eat healthier.

Good question, i guest its because people have so many pre-conceptions of words. "meat" and "milk" do help people understand where the product "fits" but i know what you mean - i put bread back becasue it had a shrimp sandwich on the packet !

As others said, it just makes it easier and gives you an idea of what the product might taste like. If you saw something that was called lollerboop or some other strange name you never heard of, you might not want to buy it because you have no clue what it would taste like and it just sounds funny too.

Because, with the exception of the "milk," those products try to mimick the taste of meat, chicken and so forth. Go ahead, call it, "tofu or soy products, pressed, formed or tubed and flavored to simulate the meat we claim not to miss." I won't mind. You can call soy milk, "extraction of smashed soy beans." MMMMM, sounds tasty!

I also wonder why they put PBS characters on vegetarian and healthy children's food. I have spagetti loops with soy meatballs and a bag of apple slices, both of which have Arthur on the package.
