If you have something contagious, it's your obligation to tell any potential lover about it. If you get to a point where you think you might want to have a physical relationship, you have to tell him, "Before this goes any further, there's something you need to know..."

Start by telling him the facts:

50% of all men and women have HPV while the majority don't know they have it. By the age of 50, 80% of women will have HPV. There is no FDA approved test to determine if a male has HPV unless he gets visible warts. As far as risks, men are at little risk of developing Cancer from HPV but women may develop cervical Cancer. Condoms help prevent the spread of HPV, but they do not guarantee that the virus will not be transmitted.

Some tips:
-Don't tell someone on your first date. Get to know them and make sure they are someone you can trust with this information.
-Don't sleep with someone without telling them first. They have the right to know.
-More than likely, their reaction will be directly dependent on how you handle telling them. If you make them feel like this is the end of your world, they won't want to go through the same experience that you went through. However, if you just present the facts in an honest and open way, someone who is mature and cares about you can see past the virus and may choose to continue with a relationship anyway. (My boyfriend did!)

Good luck!

Yes you should tell him. Males can get it and spread it. If it doesn't work out, he could pass it along.
