I am stuffed up a lot. Medicine like mucinex helps me breathe a lot better. I snore a lot at night. I guess I might have sleep apnea. I guess I think the root of the problem for me could be some kind of allergy or deviated septum. I am overweight. When i was in good shape I still had the same problem, just not quite as pronounced. I know i can have a sleep study done. Should I just try and get into see an ENT. I want to do whatever it takes to get as good as possible. I have heard about oging to ENT's, going to allergysts, or going to have a sleep study done. What should I do first? For background I know that I snored in high school, I am not really sure about as a child, no one said anything if I did. Basically I think I havbe had a lot of sinus problems, it was chronic at one point (I might have had sinusitis, but I am not sure, I started taking mucinex and it took care of the cronic stuffiness) thanks for the help

My sister and best friend have sleep apnea. My boyfriend's dad has it too. Your 'regular' doctor can send you overnight to the hospital to one of the sleep clinics if he or she thinks you have it.

They are both overweight. Both snore. Both of them were tired all the time.

First step .. go to your docotor's...

I would ask your doctor to refer you to an allergist and they can do tests to find out exactly what you are allergic to. They put different common allergens just to the top of the skin and see which ones your body reacts to. Then they measure the size of the swell and by that they know how allergic you are to that allergen. There are also allergy shots, which I am going to start taking this fall that after about 3-6 years, you are cured from allergies. Pretty cool that they can do that, but anyway, from there your allergist can find out if there are more issues and refer you to other specialists. Just explain to the doctor that you want to get to the bottom of this. He may recommend that you go to a sleep clinic or he may be able to get to the bottom of it. The best to you!!!

An ENT is who you should see. They specialize in those types of disorders.

Good luck. I had the same problem some years ago and after I had nasal surgery, it was much improved.

One note...if you are using nasal spray, you should stop. It's addicting and only makes the congestion and snoring worse.

First go to your PCP, more than likely he or she will refer you to a ENT, then the ENT will take it from there.

I finally went to my PCP for the same problem and was refered to an ENT. Now, I am just waiting for my appointment. Good luck!

Yeah I would go to the primary care doctor first and see what they say. I'm sure you have probably seen them for it before, but they will get you in the right direction and if you require a referral for your insurance you will need to go to them anyways.

A proctologist is who you should see about your breathing problems.
