12 weeks from the time she slept with him. So for example if she slept with him in January 2007, she should've got herself tested the first part of April. If it were negative, then it's negative. However if she is still worried, repeat the test every 3 months for 1 year. After one year tell her not to worry about it. So yes it's too early to tell, these test can give you a false negative.
Just an added note: I was a counselor for quite some time, I can't tell you how many times teenagers would come to me and tell me how sexually active they were, and how scared they were because they thought they were pregnant, or had gotten an STD. More often than not, they didn't have anything.
Please tell your friend to be careful. Tell her next time, get to know someone before she has sex with them. There is no cure for HIV as you know, and while its not an automatic death sentence, it can ruin your life.
Best regards.

It's way too early. IF she has been infected, she wouldn't test positive for at least 6 months. So, she needs to go back and be tested in November.
In the "crazy house?" No, they cannot do that. IF she had some disease, they HAVE to tell her what the results are----no matter what the disease. It would be against the law to lie to her. They would be charged AND she could sue them. No way. They aren't going to do that. So, she has to wait till November for her re-test. She should NEVER, EVER have unprotected sex. No one should unless you are really sure that person is disease-free.
I really hope she is STILL getting help for her depression....like counseling.

Medical professionals are required to share important health information, such as a positive HIV test, with their patients. It may take six months or so for a positive test to show up. However, your friend doesn't necessarily have HIV from sleeping with a guy who is infected.
A word of advice for your friend... USE A CONDOM!!!

Sorry to alarm you friend here but incubation period for Hiv can take up to 2 years to surface in a blood sample in atypical cases although most of the time you will know about it within three month to six months after the intercourse.Tell her to get another one if she wants.

I am sorry to hear about your friend, be supportive.I work in the medical field and she needs to be tested 6wks,12wks,6months and 1yr from the date she was sexually active with that person.HIV takes time to produce the antigen needed to make the test negative or positive.that is why we tell our patients to always use protection. They may not have it now but down the road you never know.

what makes her think he had HIV? It's a federal offense to sleep with some one and not tell them you have HIV first. Anyway I don't think they'll about her results if she in a hospital the would watch her so she don't kill herself

She needs to keep getting tested.
but I'm pretty sure the results were accurate
buy her some CONDOMS the female and male kind and buy her some sex education videos and tell her your very concerned about her well-being and you want to support her during this rough time.
at will make her laugh and she will listen to your advise and know that you CARE at the same time.
