She may need surgery to correct it. Done all the time.
There is a hole in the aorta that permits the blood to flow backwards against the normal flow. Some people live a long time with it, if it is not too serious, but eventually needs repaired.

If she has seen her doctor too long ago, call him/her.
She should see a heart specialist, and her doctor should have referred her to one.

It means there is a hole or leak between two of the four chambers in her heart. A small hole is usually nothing to worry about, but a larger hole can cause the heart to work harder to pump blood, putting stress on it. In very severe cases, it can lead to cardiac arrest and death. I was born with a large hole in my heart and needed to have surgery to get it repaired. It’s actually a relatively common condition and most people don’t even need surgery for it.

A hole in a heart is usually called a heart murmur. I have a small one, which is very minor. No medical intervention is required. Just a regular check up to make sure that it doesn't get bigger. It's been 6 yrs, and I'm ok. Hope this helps.

It could be something she's had from birth, or a lesion....let the doctor be the one to tell her if she needs to do anything differently. Don't diagnose on Yahoo, although we all mean well. Good luck to you both.
