Sure, we have cockles, and we call them cockles! Not a joke, we make the distinction here between cockles and clams also. I love the little monsters and have a great spot to dig them.

We do have cockles here (they're called cockles in both the US and overseas) but they are hard to find. They're not muscles, muscles are smaller and not as sweet. They're a lot easier to find on the east coast.

We have it in Singapore and it is quite common. However some Singaporean has shunned it coz if the cockles is contaminated it will give u Hepatitis.
In food such as laksa, satay bee hoon, steamboat or boiled it and eat with chili and lime juice.

Heard the name, cockles, many times but not sure what they are, exactly.
If they are a shell fish, we have clams which may be the same.
They can be eaten raw or steamed.

I am not sure what you are talking about. Could you describe them?
I looked it up on www.m-w.com and found the following:
any of various chiefly marine bivalve mollusks (family Cardiidae) having a shell with convex radially ribbed valves; especially : a common edible European bivalve (Cerastoderma edule syn. Cardium edule)
If that is what you mean, they sound like mussels. People eat mussels here - especially on the coasts.

We find shells like this a lot on the eastern seashore. I don't know if people eat what's in them or not.
