At out door partys food is in large containers set in another container on ice with a lid . where can I get a container like that thats plastic but cheeper ?

They're called Cambros. That's the brand name. If you put cold food in it stays cold, hot food in and it stays hot. Check out restaurant supply places or look at www.superprod.com. They're an excellent supply place.

Smart & Final and Party City have the disposable types that are pretty cheap. If you can't find them at a party store try with your own bowls. Just get two that are close in size, place ice or ice packs inside one and place another bowl on top.

used restaurant supply stores... usually in the rough parts of bigger cities, and prices are negotiable. Bring cash and a pick-up truck.

Check out a Costco or Sam's Club or a store that is similar. (These are warehouse stores that sell bulk items.)
