For my husband 40th, I did a semi-formal dinner party with our closest friends and family (apx 45 people)... Catered... at a very nice facililty. Total cost $2000.00

This site is for party ideas that were actually done by people. They are even voted on. There are 7 different 50th birthday parties. One won honorable mention. Hope one works for you. PS. I think it is sweet you and her husband are working together on this. See men and women can be "friends"

fun things like a really classy royal tea party at a fancy hotel are nice. spa days etc.
