This does not sound like a question of endocarditis - rather I interpret this to be an ischemic event - such as a heart attack - that has led to endocardial injury. Yes - endocardial injury and or death does effect overall heart function - but it is quite dependent upon how much of the endocardium has been injured. And yes - there are several classes of medications - one being angiotensin 1 converting enzyme inhibitors - which lead to cardiac 'remodeling' - repairing the injury - often restoring normal or near normal function.

Hi,
Name's Jess. I'm a paramedic. Anyway, on to your question: If the tissue is damaged, it can heal. If it's dead, it's dead. Your heart is like any other boy part. And yes, it can affect the function of the heart, specifically the hearts ability to pump, however it depends on where the damage is (left ventricular is a significant place to have damage since it is the most muscular part of the heart) and how bad. Some people suffer damage, and yet have no noticable effects, some aren't so lucky. Time and a good cardiologist is your best bet.

Side note: Stem cells have been used to repair heart tissue, but its not widely used because it isn't legal, and they're still experimenting.
