Avoid any common allergents you know as it can compound the effects of a cold.
Drink warm fluids- do not 'feed a fever and starve a cold'
certain herbal preparations may have benefits- green tea, ginger etc.
Wear warm clothing, and do not take a head bath for 2 days, you might catch a fever too
steam inhalation, and decongestant medications like cetrizine/ phenylpropanamine also help.
Carry a handkerchief at all times, and sneeze into it if need be- do not spread the infection

I live in the South where there is a big problem with sinuses. The "common cold" around here is usually some degree of infected sinuses. I take Claratin and Sudafed, and sometimes Tylenol Sinus.

Tea usually helps me with a soar throaght. Or you can buy airborn which is a tablet you put in water (hot or cold) and it boosts your metabolism to get rid of sickness and prevent it. Or take cold medicene like nyquil and dayquil (those work the best!) I DO NOT recommend bennidrill. Only take it at night b/c it makes you very very tired. And you can combine other medicenes with it. The only thing to do is treat the symptoms and wait till its gone! Did you know there are over 100,000 different kinds of colds? After you are done with a cold, you become immune to it but than another kind comes along!

The old adages relevant in this context are:Feed a cold and starve a fever,
is as irrelevant as the other one: You are OK if you take medicine for seven days, and if you dont it goes away in a week. However, the accepoted fact of life and medicine is that we have not yer found a cure for this most common malady afflicting the mankind.

to be frank , there is no particular medicine for it,as someone ha mentioned earlier, it goes away in a week with medication, or else, 7 days, all the above mentioned remedies are for symptomatic relief, so the best way is to prevent it by respiratory hygiene and building up of Ur immune system.

I can tell you that I have tried every possible thing to prevent colds but my treatment is that there is no perfect cure for cold except time. If you take a medicine, your cold will go away in a week. If you dont take a medicine, your cold will go in 7 days! So time is the only thing that can heal your cold and mine too!! Sniff, sniff!
