Kosher doesn't mean the gelatin didn't come from an animal, it just means it didn't come from pork and the slaughter of the animal it did come from was kosher. It can be mixed with dairy supposedly because it has been altered enough to be pareve and not meat, but my opinion is that it's not kosher.

I've wondered the same thing, as I am a strict vegetarian and will not eat anything with gelatin (including Skittles, Starburst, etc). It's amazing that they have to kill animals for candy. That's just disgusting.

Anyways, I've seen "kosher gelatin" in yogurts before, which I find odd. Most yogurts like Yoplait use gelatin unfortunately. I don't know of many that don't. Sorry I can't answer your question, but I just wanted you to know I share the same interest.

Yes, some yogurt companies make yogurt without geletin ( if thats your question, not sure )

You need to read the label or contact the maker to be sure.

They use geletin ( cow or pig ) to speed up the setting, often in cheaper yogurts. Fruits will a lot of pectin do not need geletin to make them set. There are lots of veggie yogurts out there.

I have found some of the all natural yogurts do not have geletin in them(at least last time I looked). I believe Danon and Breyers have all natural yogurts.

If you live near aTrader Joe or a natural food store, you should be able to find a decent variety. It's really difficult to find anything in most supermarkets.

Look for yogurts that are marked as Kosher, since gelatin is not a Kosher product as it is considered a forbidden food...
