Being that it is mid-summer in Fresno and nights are about 75-80 degrees I need something lite on clothing.
I don't want to do the obvious, Hawaiian or Black and White, Pimps and Hoes... etc. something new.

Have you given any thought to a Spanish theme? Not Mexican, but real Spain.
Tappas are becoming a pretty hot item here in Europe and they make for good parties as they are generally finger food. Throw in some Sangria and you are well on your way.
Spain has some rich traditions including bull-fighting, football (soccer), cycling, the church, knights and of course, sailing and exploring (Columbus sailed for Spain). However, if you have a dark side, you could even theme an evening around the Inquisition.
And their is no shortage of Spanish music and dance. It would be a fun time for all.

Have you ever done a Mafia night? Where the guys wear like pinstriped pants and suspenders but no shirt and the girls get to be all over the top. Then you turn a house into a casino, with the bar being very 1920's hooch bar and the rest of the house set up like an underground casino. Then you make the Backyard into a 1920's dance hall...very unique, not much money, just a lot of imagination! good luck, hope it sparks some ideas.

Last year I did a Christmas in July party with a tree (fake), the music, food and the works. We had a bunch of Christmas themed games and I gave out door prizes in my leftover paper from the previous season. It was really funny especially since I live in Florida and it gets so hot hereduring that time. Hope this helps

I would have gone with Black and White, I went to one resently, but try something like those mask parties. Try a Mexican party with big hats and mexican food, that sounds good. A costume party. Maybe instead of Black and White you can pick two different colors.

The obvious is a swim party with a contest for the small swim wear for male and for female and another for the most. Not everyone is looks good in a bikini LOL so have a contest for the most original. Yes, be prepared someone will come in their birthday suit.

Ask people to come as their favorite star or favorite Idol Like Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson etc.. etc...
