Love the stuff! My great-grandmother was right off the boat from Germany, and even when she was in her 90's, she was a world-class cook. She lived by herself, put out a huge garden every year, and canned all kinds of vegetables and fruit.

About the only thing she fixed that I never learned to like was some kind of soup with liver and dumplings. But her Kassler mit Sauerkraut was not to be missed on New Years, and she made some of the best pastries anyone ever tasted.

She also did a platter of different sausages, roasted potatoes, and sauerkraut that was delicious, too. Grandma Wolfe was an amazing lady and a fabulous cook, all right!

One of my favorite dish's of all time is Jagersnitzel.
Veal fried to a golden brown.
Served with a deep brown wine mushroom and onion gravy.

German food is delicious, which is why living in Berlin was so frustrating. Italian Restaurants everywhere; Turkish, French, Chinese, Japanese, American, and even Mexican, but it was difficult to find German restaurants in our area. We used to joke about it. Now we are in El Paso and there are a couple of nice places to indulge in (thanks especially to fact that the German Air Force trains here) but I think it is a case of restaurants trading on the novelty of a unique cuisine. I have to say that there are plenty of Mexican restaurants here as well however, some of them excellent, but this blows that theory all to perdition. The local population seems to love going to Chinese Buffets however, so there still might be something to it.

Yes, I like the:
Sauerbraten, Wiener Schnitzel, Potato Dumplings, Red Cabbage, Strudel Cake, Cabbage Rolls, and Hasenpfeffer.
But best of all I like the cold cuts and cheese, oh yeah and the many sausages.

Not a lot. It's the European version of Korean food. Now, the baking. . .that's something else!!! Bread and pastries. . .ummm! But the meals are not so good. Sauer Braten is sometimes okay.
