My friend and I were thinking about this the other day I always thought that hamburgers and hotdogs were american foods but she says they're German. And then I thought maybe apple pie but wouldn't that already been created in England? Anyone actually know a traditional american food?

tomatoes are native, as well as cranberries and corn, just to mention a few! Of course the native Americans had quite a few dishes, one that comes to mind is pemmican

All corn, tomatoes and many of the Chile pepper are native to North America. Buffalo (American Bison) is also a native food from America.
You can find a great number of dishes that have been made for centuries in America. With the corn products(Hominy) is corn that is soaked in lime water, corn nuts are parched corn. Both were used by the Inca's and all indian tribe's that came after them.

American food, does not really exist. Only Red Indians are native Americans, all others have migrated from all over the world. So no food is truly American. Infact the American race is made from a Global Community. Red Indians are the only true pure blood Americans.

Gee, there's not really much that we can call our own. As another member mentioned, we've modified many dishes to become our own. The only thing that comes to mind is apple pie, but then again pies weren't originated here in the US, either.

anything thats been introduced to america and altered to fit the taste buds of americans. if u'r formilliar with panda express a chinese fast food chain u wouldn't see that in any of chinese territories it's american because they introduced it and the americans accepted it and made it to fit the american taste but ofcourse because the chinese introduced it, it would be called chinese american food there for it's american. hamburgers and hotdogs wasn't at first american but again its been introduced, taken, and accepted to be american and the list goes on.

I don't really know if there are. I mean since there are so many other cultures that make up America. But I guess some of the fruits are. As they grown oranges and some other fruits here in the states. But many of the more exotic ones are from other countries and things like that.

well really not many foods are american as the usa is made up of settlers from many different countries and they all brought their own nationial dishes and stuff
