The most preferred way of being diagnosed with genital herpes is when the person is experiencing an outbreak. An exam is usually done which sometimes includes a pap smear and a sample of the fluid from the sores is usually taken.
A blood test can also determine if a person has herpes or not.

usually you will have open sores in the genital area or what look like pimples that are sores that havent opened people also get them on the mouth an dthey are usually treated by valtrex, it is becoming more popular and it seems like more oral cases are popping up than genital but because you can get them from kissing and you can spread them when you are having signs of an outbreak as well as when you arent so safe sex is best, I was a state trained nurse and am seeking an LPN degree, I hope the info I relayed was somewhat helpful

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

some times a blood test but it may not show if it's in its early stat\ges. The other way is a culture test.
