People kill people for a job and that doesn't seem to be a problem. Most people will kill a spider or a fly without even thinking about it. Every life is equal surely? So why the love for animals and the hate for spiders? I don't see why animals should be any different. I guess it's just a case of your moral standing.

Slaughtering animals for meat (as opposed to a vet killing an animal to end its misery) is done with a lot of care regarding the serenity of the animal's last moments. Whilst this is done out of concern for the animal, it is also good practice for quality meat product. An animal which is frightened or upset at all in its last moments will produce adrenalin which toughens the meat and this cannot be rectified through butchery and hanging. It is a fact that there is a huge demand for good meat and many people derive jobs and therefore income from meeting that demand. From the farmers themselveswho breed and rear livestock always with high quality meat product in mind to those who work in slaughterhouses and begin the skillful procedure through which an animal is processed into the best meat cuts. The best butchers in the UK would work wth farmers to contract the rearing of speciality breeds known for their quality meat and often the butcher would oversee the slaughter to make sure his valuable assets were treated with respect.

Any animal is born, lives and dies. The meat industry (and the meat eaters amongst us) consequentially cause many more animals to enjoy a life than if we did not eat meat. With few exceptions animals are not mistreated and animal welfare is a large consideration throughout the industry.

But if you were referring to a vet killing animals for a job, then the same underlying concern exists for the well being of animals and the wish to treat them without letting them suffer when injured or diseased.

People have different moral values. Some have no worries about killing people, animals, invading countries....

If you are worried about people killing animals then the best way to have a positive impact on the world is to educate people, in f they want it, in a non-confrontational way.

There are an uncountable number of intelligences - and one of them is empathic intelligence. I watched an eighteen-year-old boy describe how he'd maimed someone he was fighting with for fun. He was quite serious as he described the sensations, sights and sounds involved in causing someone permanent physical damage - and then at the end he grinned and said: 'best time I ever had'.

He lacks empathic intelligence - and to be honest, a job in an abattoir is one of the best openings for him. Picture someone with his hobby in an old people's home, or a mental institution.

He'd need a supervisor who made it clear that if he didn't follow the rules, there would be consequences which would outweigh the pleasure he'd find in causing pain.

I guess they were born without hearts or consciences.
I have a next door neighbor who did that as a summer job whilst growing up. Pigs. I asked if it was disgusting and he said no.
Of course, he IS an idiot, so I guess you just have to consider the source. (you should hear some of the things he talks about)

I could never do that. Some people get used to it. Some people can't do it. It depends on the person.

Which animal? If you're talking about cows, then that's easy. A cow dies and nothing changes in its head. Because... it's a cow. They don't even feel *conscious* pain. Their instincts can tell them to move away from a pointy or hot thing, but that's not pain.

But, like other animals, like pigs? I have no idea. Pigs are smart.
