You should do a theme like the 50's or the 60's have everyone dress for the theme and have party foods from the decade - Like for 50's have fun foods like Ritz and Cheese Whiz, Bananas dipped in frosting then rolled in rice crispies, a big 7up punch with sherbet in it for color and flavor - or for 60's have chex mix, tang punch, a cobb salad or little batter and cheese sandwiches. Be sure to play games and music from the decade and the party will be a hit - make sure everyone knows it's a theme and that costumes are a must! You could do allot with a good theme if a decade is not your thing then do what is - like Hawaii, pool party or whatever is your passion. Have Fun!

Backyard Sweet Sixteen Party: I am turning 16 this month and I am throwing a Sweet Sixteen, but my problem was that I had a limited budget. So this is what I came up with... I am lucky enough to have a large above ground pool and a propane grill, so rather than having one of those huge formal sweet sixteens I had a barbecue. It only cost me around 40 - 50 dollars to do this. I sent out invitations by flyer to my friends, which are easily done by taking cheap construction paper(I bought 100 sheets at the local dollar general)and writing date name and features on it(i.e... these party at my house on June 23rd 4:oo) and sent them out by dropping them off in my friends mail boxes. Next, for food I went the local groceries and bought 3 bags of potato ,chips, hamburger meat( 2 large packages)and generic hamburger buns and then koolaid. Simple! the night before I decorated with some cheap citronella candles and leis then Christmas lights in any color I had lying around. the morning of the party I preformed the hamburgers and put them in the refrigerator till it was time. then I just bored the chips into cheap plastic bowls of varying color I had lying around the house. after everyone started to arrive I gathered the girls in my room and brought my little secret to the girls, small supersoakers fully loaded and water balloons that were so full they almost popped in your hands. Before proceeding out side we blind folded the guys with scraps of material, then after we lined them up we told them to take the blind folds off as soon as they did we all let them have it. After that fun we all went into the pool and swam and played around for about an hour and a half then we ate... while we let our stomachs settle I passed out slips of paper to everyone each had a name on them and what they then discovered was that was their partner for the next game , the three legged race. for the winner I awarded a CD single from WalMart mart they cost around $2 each so that did not put me back at all. While the guys played basketball the girls if they didn't want to play were taken in to the garage where I had my stereo and a an set up to keep us cool. After all the games were done we went back to the pool until everyone was ready to leave. In my opinion it was a lot of fun and didn't cost hardly anything.
