With regards to carrots, yes you can eat so many of them that your skin will turn yellow. One carrot (7 1/2" long) has 2025 RE of vitamin A, which is 203% of your Daily Value. One pound of carrots has 1276% of your RDA for vitamin A. So since you have eaten more than 3 carrots in a day (> 34,000 IU), you have probably saturated your body's ability to store vitamin A over a short time and so it is showing up as an orange tint on your skin. I would suggest you decrease your carrot consumption and increase other low vitamin A vegetables.

What an awesome build up to a Halloween costume requiring orange skin!
Seriously, though, yes. And too much orange soda can do it too - it's much easier for it to happen to kids because they have less body mass. In either case, the cure is to lay off the orange stuff.
Now I think I may need to buy a whole lot of carrots this October... Put on a green hat and I'll be a carrot!

It can be true of some folks. There is a protein or some chemical in carrots that can temporarily pigment the skin but it will not last very long. It won't make you sick as long as you do not have a food allergy to carrots. I believe you would have to eat an awful lot of carrots to make this happen. If you eat that many carrots you will probably not be seen by many people since you will spend quite a bit of time in the restroom. Enjoy the healthy carrot without too much fear.

As already posted, carotene will turn your skin orange if you injest enough of it, this is called Carotenodermia (Not a joke)
Inorder for it to have that affect, you need to eat alot of carrots or fruit and other vegetables containing carotene everyday, about 30mg of carotene worth.
The only way to stop this is by not eating so many carrots, making sure you drink plenty of water will also help with limiting this affect, if you have already turned yourself orange just reduce your intake and your normal skin colour will return (it may take several months. If after a couple of months the colour has not changed, and you have reduced your intake of carotene, go see a doctor as it might be the symptom of another more serious disease.

Yes eating to many carrots can make your skin orange, but that is like every day for at least a couple of months. I know a girl who did this, boy was I shocked. She just stopped eating them and her skin went back to normal.

Well I don't know in people. I had a friend who said it happened when she was a baby. All she would eat was carrot baby food, and her mom said it happened. . .Also, I used to have a white hampster, and it happened to the hampster!!! But I sort of think for it to really happen you would need to eat a LOT of carrots and for a long time.

Yes, you can. Carotene can turn you orange. You would have to eat your body weight in carrots but it is possible. However you would go into a diabetic comma. Carotene can also turn you yellow.

Yes, it is true. My hands looked like smokers' hands all last summer. I was eating a lot of spinach salad with carrots - spinach also has a lot of carotenoid. Excess carotenoid (Vitamin A) shows up first in the hands and the soles of the feet.
