Serious question. I am glad they're making an effort to bring awareness but I would like to know what exactly they did so when a person says the artists or Al Gore is/are being hypocritical, I'd like to know how to respond.

I'm not going to take the time to re-type their website, but they did ALOT. They completely set a new standard in concert production. And it wasn't just Al Gore going "hmm, what should the stage look like". The brought in LEED certified set design teams, and those guys don't screw around.

Just follow the link and read for yourself. :)

In reality they did very little, they didn't even recycle the the trash they generated. They claim to have purchased energy offsets but that is just a scam. Most of the energy offsets occur in third world countries where for a fee they promise to plant trees or something. If those trees ever get planted no one knows. For the small amount of money it costs chances are they don't or for every 10 or 100 sold one gets planted so they have something to show for it. Al Gore is the biggest hypocrite I know when it comes to living with a small carbon footprint. Limiting yourself to just one reasonably sized home and flying commercial is about a small of a step as anyone could take as an environmentalist. But that is way more of a commitment than Al is willing to make. Wish it was different but the concert was a huge waste of energy as far as making the earth a greener place.

It was an attempt to recreate the magic of Woodstock, or Farm Aid or Live Aid and you know what....you can't force magic....it just has to happen....and it just didn't.

I've worked in the environmental field for over 10+ years and there is a saying that we ALL know.......people that are going to recycle and care about the environment are going to do it whether we tell them to or not AND the people that aren't going to do anything aren't going to do it unless you make it MANDATORY!!! That's the bottom line!!

As far as carbon credits....it's like "Robbing Peter to pay Paul".....a total farce and we actually let companies get away with it and pat ourselves on the back for being "environmentally aware".

I watched about 30 seconds of it because my husband changed the channel to it....the crowd appeared bored, the music (in my opinion) sucked and it looked VERY commercial for such a GREEN event.

They did specific things, such as offsetting carbon emissions and using recycled products. Overall, they used more energy than they would have if they didn't have the concert, but that wasn't the point. The point was to bring awareness to the issue. I won my ticket in a competition, and I didn't know much about how I could change my ways, so I learned a lot from the concert.

I think it's an important issue to bring attention to. The last thing we need is cynics.

Well, most of the decorations were recycled. But the point of Live Earth was to raise awareness. By getting people that we seem to admire, they put a good word out and tried to bring our attention to the problems.

Come on, at least they are making an effort. They wouldn't have to do this if some people would just smarten up about making Earth a better place to live - even if Global Warming doesn't exist.

they did nothing worthwhile to conserve energy. carbon credits is a way for idiots who don't understand to feel good about thinking they are saving the environment

they convonced a lot of people that its a huge issue, affecting the whole world. i definitely changed A LOT because of all the commercials, and i'm sure lots of others did, so...yeah they made a difference...and actually, it reached 2 billion. someone said it was one billion, but it was 2.
