Can it distinguish between type 1 and type 2? Like if it came back positive,what does that mean? You could have 1 or 2?! or you deffo have 2?!

Yes, it can distinguish if you have herpes simplex virus 1 or 2. Your doctor should tell you and if they don't then just ask them. Good luck!

Some herpes blood test can distinguish between type 1 and 2. When you go to get tested, make sure you tell your health care provider that you want a type specific herpes blood test. The herpes simplex virus 1 and HSV 2 produces different antibodies (cells that your immune system produces that try to destroy the virus). This is how they know what type a person has.
