why wont big companies like TXU or relient energy use rolar or wind generated power plants??

i mean people dont want to find ways to help our enviornment i know theres a better way of creating electricty besides burining coal or useing gas instead of electricty

Getting permission to use those forms of energy requires permission from local and state authorities, who do not want to grant it often times. Write your congressman.

Also nuclear power is actually VERY safe and environmentally friendly as well as cheaper. It is the best form of energy, however, there are many stigmas attached to it still and people are slow to change their views especially when environmentalists years ago condemned their use and do not want to backpeddle now in the face of new and accurate data.

Also, there are two camps of environmentalists on the wind issue. Those who favor wind based power because it is environmentally friendly, and those who are against it because of the wildlife that is killed by it, aka birds. Also, if you don't live in a windy area, it is not a viable option.

People are slow to change, especially when those who own the media don't use their power responsibly and instead pass on false information.

I saw this on the discovery channel, basically the problem is efficiency. Solar power is the worst, with modern science a solor panel can only use 7% of the sunlight it takes in for use of energy. A solar panel can only convert ultraviolet light into energy but there is also more colors and hues in the lighting spectrum thats doing nothing when they hit the panel. As for wind, its...unreliable, the wind fluctuates to much for a constant supply of energy to keep things smooth. They are partially efficient but when the gears turned some of that energy gets converted into heat which can cause breaks downs in mechanical gears and loss of energy. Oil however (How much of it is actually left) gives constant energy and is the most efficient. Though dont be discouraged because windmills are becoming more common. You can actually build your own and sell your energy to electrical companies...its a good way to reduce certain utility bills (wink, wink electricity)

Screw TXU. I'm from Texas & they just got slapped with a huge fine from the state for overcharging customers in 2005. However if you do live in Texas there is an electric company that gets it entire power from renewable energy, Green Mountain Energy.

Solar and wind are not cost effective, nor are they dependable. They can ease some of the burden, but you can't power a hospital in Alaska with solar when it's dark all winter. I have solar at my house. I put it up myself. I may never recover the cost, but I still feel good about it. The electricity I don't use can now go to the folks who need more power. If we all did this, the electric companies would only need to supply business and industry, and of course the hospital in Alaska, and they wouldn't have to build more power plants. Stop blaming the big companies, you pay them to be who they are.

I choose to pay an extra $10 a month for green. It's not fully powered by green, but I thought it a fair step.
