A pressure of 110/70 is not low, it is normal. The doctor is right to hold off on medications for now, they might not kill you, but they could cause dizziness.

Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous.

Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

110/70 is NOT super low it is a nice blood pressure.

During the day be aware when taking your blood pressure. A healthy persons blood pressure rises with activity. When doing exercise stress tests it is considered very bad if blood pressure does not go up during exercise. During the day your blood pressure at rest not after activity for a better idea of what your true blood pressure is. If you are using a home machine make sure that it is calibrated.

It is perfectly safe for you to take highblood pressure medications if need.

There are many things that you can do to improve high blood pressure that don't involve medicine. Diet and exercise are always first on the list but there are some rather innovative products on the market that can help some people. I've been diagnosed with hypertension for about 10 years and am not the best at keeping to a good exercise regimen. I have had good luck with a product called resperate. Its a little portable CD-player sized device that helps you lower your breathing rate to less than 10 breaths a minute for about 15 minutes. It is not known why exactly this helps to lower blood pressure but it does work. Its been through several successful clinical trials and there are lots of success stories out there. I've included a link if you want some more info: http://resperatereviews.com/naturally-lower.html
Good Luck!

Ok Reverend,
Here is the highs and lows of blood pressure.

CATEGORY - SYSTOLIC / DIASTOLIC
Hypertension - 140 mmHg or higher / 90 mmHg or higher
Prehypertension - 120–139 mmHg / 80–89 mmHg
Normal - 90–120 mmHg / 60–80 mmHg
Hypotension - 90 mmHg or lower / 60 mmHg or lower

As you can see from the list 110/70 mmHg is very good. It's smack in the middle of normal. BP varies widely during the day.

These figures are for when you are relaxed. Check this link to find how to take your blood pressure. Be sure to scroll down to "Tips for accurate use"

When you are up and active, your BP will be higher. The heart is working harder to keep up with the demand for more oxygen. When you rest, your body requires less oxygen so the heart doesn't work as hard. It's resting too. Not only does your BP decrease with rest, typically your pulse rate drops too. Your BP will also be lower when you are lying down. The heart doesn't have to work as hard to move the blood. While up right, your heart works harder (against gravity) to push the blood back up to the chest.

Your doctor should have explained that your BP is normal. That's why he didn't want to prescribe a medication. Any BP lowering drug probably would have sent you into hypotension (Low BP).

So, my advice is to relax before you get your BP up too high.

There's two more links below, one for Low BP and one for High BP.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

You should read "The Blood Pressure Solution" (also available in electronic format, watch the video presentation here: http://www.fixbloodpressure.com ) It's a very comprehensive step-by-step book that walks you through the natural remedies of high blood pressure. It provides you with a lot of information on what foods to eat, how you can acquire and prepare these foods, how you can change your lifestyle for the better, how to eliminate the toxins from your body, how to reduce stress, how you can check your blood pressure level the correct way etc.

I have been there, With similar symptoms. It sounds like you have daily stress. Your nighttime BP is great and you should be happy>(wish mine was that good). For me. I was working as an appraiser and driving the LA freeways everyday. My BP would bounce during the stress times and level off after work. I treated myself with meditation and made a conscious effort to not let the drive make me crazy. It gradually leveled off but the years of stress contributed to heart problems. Hypertension will kill you in the long run so find someway to balance the pressures in your life.
Some of the BP medicines are just diuretics and should be safe to use on a limited level. Also, Anti stress meds for your day might be in order. Ask your doc for more info.
