I don't have a problem with the idea of meat. I visited my dad's slaughterhouse 10 years ago and threw up because of the awful smell!

Have any of you vegetarians started eating meat again? Did you feel any health benefits or find any problems?

I never had a problem with slaughter, I realise it is more humane than cooking it alive!

My only problem was that there was a vile, rancid smell in the slaughterhouse.

Well you may live longer by not eating meat. It may also not be palatable to you anymore.

I am not vegetarian but I've given up red meat. I just thought it was healthier. Then I remember eating pork again and hating it, and eating beef again and hating it. It just is no longer palatable to me at all.

If you're going to start again though, do it smartly. You have the option to not eat it after all. So don't just eat any meat, make sure it is grown the old fashioned way, not the modern meat farms where animals are kept in tiny cages and it's basically a factory of meat instead of a farm.

I have to be careful because there seem to be some vegetarian fanatics on this question, but if you want to eat meat, why not?

Like every one else said, add it slowly, in small portions, and only quality until your body adjusts.

I have heard this adjusting time can take over 12 months, so listen to your body, and take your time to add it.

I think that if you have a balaned diet either way, it should be all good. It is difficult as a vegetarian to get iron and other vitamins, so this may be a benifit to ba a carnivore.

Just go easy on the quarter pounders

Well I was a strict vegan for a year and then a vegetarian, for a long while after that. I started eating some meat again when I was pregnant as for me the cravings were horrible.

I have eaten a piece of bacon and that made me sick... so I stick with eating seafood a couple of times a year. That's ok for me.

It really depends on your body. I have seen full vegans go over to eating meat with no problems, and a friend of mine who was a vegetarian for 16 years just started eating meat again. She said it doesn't make her sick but she said the texture is odd and she isn't a huge fan of the taste.

If you are healthy eating what you are though now... why would you change?

i did, but it was a gradual process, first fish, then bacon. Still eat vegetarian food 4 times a week, as I find it difficult to eat a lot of meat.

The reason I did was health, I was very weak, had low iron. Anyway, I find when I eat meat, I get full quicker and stay fuller for longer. So I am actually eating less.
Also , I am not so tired, but other than that, felt a bit queasy for a while, but think that was probably my imagination .

But ,I had been eating fish, so was not a complete vegetarian, as such

I have known many vegetarians who started eating meat again. Most because they felt their health was suffering in some way. (I actually tried it briefly--didn't help) On the other hand I know many vegetarians who are vibrantly healthy. I believe the key is to eat plenty of raw foods, greens, and a diet appropriate for your constitution(high or low carb). This helps enormously:)
If you ask me(which you did), I would say don't eat meat.

why would you want to eat meat again after such a long time,
you say you have no problem with slaughter it's better than cooking it live , you'd have to have a bloody big pan to try & cook a cow live as well as a crane to lift it in to the pan unless you have super human strength & can pick it up .
i've been a veggie most of my life & i grew up on a farm my reason for being veggie was that i love animals so why would i want to eat one , i dont condemn meat eaters my family are all meaties.i've never had health issues being a veggie quite the opposite.

i was a vegitrian for a year and i went back to eating meat bacause i wasnt getting enough protien in my diet.... if you are finding healthy alternitives to meat ie pulses etc... but if your not you could try maybe not eating meat but fish.
the answer lies with you if you enjoy meet and dont feel against it than go back to eating meet.. you wont get ill it just may be starange going back and eating it if you havent for a long time.
if you are not happy with that then maybe only have meet when you want to treat yourself like just on sundays.

whatever you do it will be healthy as long as your trying to eat a balanced diet

NO! DON'T DO IT! There is NO reason to start! Meat is Murder!

I've been a vegetarian my entire life and I will never eat meat because I never have. I really hope you don't do it!

I started eating meat again about a year ago and have gained a few lbs. I think it's much easier to dine out, you don't always have to eat the same thing, and people who come over for dinner LOVE meat. It's also more fun to cook because it's another medium to use.
If you are going to eat meat again, it doesn't mean you have to do it ALLLLLL the time, so if it's done in moderation there's nothing wrong with it.

If you want to...but in my opinon I wouldn't. I don't care for meat because it's horrible how those animals are treated, just so we can eat them. I may not be doing much for people to have to close down their slaughter houses, but I'm certianly not going to buy it.
