Let's face it - people are omnivores. We are designed to eat meat by nature. It is purely a choice to be a vegan or vegetarian...

So if you were to go hunt yourself or fishing or whatever, would you eat the animal then, since it is not being done on a mass slaughter scale?

What about fresh road kill since the animal is going to die anyway? (That sounds gross I know... but it DOES happen)

Or are you opposed to eating any meat no matter how the animal died?

no meat, regardless of how it dies or how inevitable its death was.

Why should you make us try to prove our choice? Why don't you first prove that humans are omnivores just because our bodies handle meat (not very well if you actually study it)? Once you can prove that the human body cannot survive without meat (which no one has), then this becomes a sensible question. It really just seems someone has made you bitter, or even possibly that some guilt has crept in and this is how you are dealing with it. The information is out there for both sides. Read it. Don't expect people to respond well using old "what if" questions like you used that people have been throwing around since the 60's. It's old. No one has to prove anything to anyone.

A calm side note though. Take some time to compare a humans teeth tothat of omnivores and carnivores. You'll find that ours (yes, even with our slightly extended canines) are a closer match to herbivores.

I have to disagree with the part about people being "designed to eat meat." People don't have fangs, or claws, and they have much longer intestines than carnivorous animals.
For me, life is a very sacred thing, and I don't feel right about taking the life of another living being, or for having someone else kill the animal for me. I actually feel a little sad everytime I see dead animals on the road. My dog killed a little rabbit in my back yard last week, and I felt sad for the rabbit, but I have to accept it's natural behavior for my dog to do that.
I can't imagine eating meat now, I haven't eaten any for more than 20 years and it's just nasty to me; so it's kind of irrelevant how the animal died--I still don't want to eat it because it's just not appealing to me.
However, I have a little more respect for people who are willing to kill then animal themselves before they eat it. I feel they are taking more responsibility for their actions than someone who eats meat but can't stand the sight of blood or to see anything suffer; so they buy it in a department store. I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone, but I'm trying to give an honest answer. I have a lot of friends and family members who eat meat and I don't lecture them as long as they don't lecture me.

A rise in meat consumption coincided with a rise in brain mass and therefore intelligence in our ancestors way back when. Therefore, we are designed to eat meat, why else would we bo doing it? It's not like somebody came along and was like "hey man, it's cool if you eat meat." Human body can digest meat better then it can digest most vegetables. You get fiber in your diet to help clean out your plumbing because it can't be digested fully. Guess what vegetables have in it?

Also this is a question mainly for vegetarians. There is no mention of like if the cow was squirting milk all over the place for no reason would you drink it.

What would make you think we are designed to eat meat?
This is incorrect and it's something that you need to realize.
Not that knowing this would stop you from eating meat, but knowing that what you were lead to believe isn't true.
It's a choice no matter WHAT you eat-be it meat or not.
There are choices for every decision we make, so to say that it's only a choice to be vegan or vegitarian is false.
And many people (including myself) become vegetarians/vegans for health reasons. This may be hard for you to comprehend, but many people become physically ill after consuming ANY flesh.
The human body was not made for meat consumption because we do not possess the correct teeth. Animals that solely consume flesh of other animals have totally different teeth then humans. They donot have any flat molars, and their canine teeth are much, much longer and sharper than ours.
They have rows of sharp edged teeth-we do not.
Another thing is our digestive systems do not completely digest flesh, which ends up sitting and rotting in your intestines for a long time and is one cause of colon cancer.
In fact, the FDA recognizes vegetarians/vegans as having much lower heart disease rates, lower BP, lower cholesterol levels, to name a few:http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/fdaveget.html
Meat eaters are more prone to many diseases including those I've mentioned above.
Animals that solely consume meat have the proper digestive acids to not only digest the meat but also to kill off any and all bacteria-which is why they do not become ill or die from eating contaminated and/or raw meat -but yet humans do.

I not only am repulsed by meat but I feel compassion towards the animals and do not believe that we should nor are we made to eat them.

Now to answer your question, under no circumstances would I ever eat meat.

Actually if you look at the anatomy of a omnivore or meat eaters teeth, they have sharp, and pointed maws, designed for ripping flesh. Animals that are generally herbivores have large amounts of wide, flat teeth for grinding fibrouse vegetables. We aren't designed to eat meat. That's why we invented steak knives, haha.

But to answer your question, no. That is partially why I became a vegetarian. I know, in my heart that I couldn't kill an animal. And it seems wrong to me to recive meat by proxy of someone else doing the dirty work for me. If I was in a dire situation, worse case senario, possibly. But I would prefer to forage for edible plants first. And that is just me. And my personal view.

The majority of people are omnivores by influence not by nature. We are not design to eat animal meat.

I myself am not a vegan but it dated one from a while. I can tell you that no matter what the situation she would never eat anything from an animal. I asked her a number of times why. Her responce was that we do not need to eat meat to live, or kill an animal to live, and as a dietatition I guest she knew what she was atlking about.

My reason for being a vegetarian is quite simple. I believe that I should be able to kill the meat I eat and I can't do it. Having said that I would eat meat that is going to waste because it is better to use it than to throw it away but I still have a hard time eating that...

I am mainly against factory farming. I have less against hunting and fishing, though, as long as it is not canned hunting and the animal leads a normal life . However, I don't want to do it and don't like meat anymore (I used to LOVE it.) so that just leaves road kill. I don't eat it but a lot of freegans do. I have no objection and don't see why anyone would. Seems like the most harmless way.

Humans are designed to consume and digest proteins not necessarily meat. The theory that humans are omnivores is a myth.

If our designer wanted us to consume meat only for protein then that designer would not of made other sources available for us.

Nuts, legumes, and even some fruits and vegetables are all good sources of protein.
