Mine beat fast for 25 years and I am still alive. Nah, really, 190 beats a minute isn't too bad. It is when your heart beats 190 beats over a long period of time when your heart muscle starts to wear out. If it happens all the time, I suggest going to see a cardiologist. A cardiologist can hook you up to a 24 hour heart monitor and monitor your heart rythm for any and all irregularities. Fixing a fast heart rate can mean taking a pill everyday or having minor surgery where catheters with electric tips are inserted in your chest and groin and threaded through your veins and heart while your heart rythm is mapped and an electrophysiologist can find what is causing your rapid heart beat. Once found, the cells that make your heart beat irregularly are burned off and your heart will beat normal.
No matter what you do, go see a doctor.

It is called tachycardia.
Here is some info from the Mayo clinic
http://www.mayoclinic.org/tachycardia/causes.html

Causes of Tachycardia

The chances of developing tachycardia increase as a person ages. Fewer than one in every 100 people in their 50s has tachycardia, but about 10 in every 100 people in their 80s have it.

Most people with tachycardia have heart disease. Some people have coronary heart disease (hardening of the arteries). Others have different heart problems, such as:

* Long-term high blood pressure (hypertension)
* Abnormalities of the heart valves (thin tissues that keep blood flowing in one direction through the heart)
* Pericarditis, inflammation of the saclike covering of the heart (pericardium)
* Abnormalities of the heart's pumping function
* Dysfunction of the heart's natural pacemaker, (sinus node)

Some people who have tachycardia don't have underlying heart disease. The cause is often unknown. Possible causes include:

* An overactive thyroid or other metabolic imbalance
* Damage or microscopic abnormalities in the muscles of the atria (upper heart chambers)
* Abnormalities within individual heart cells
* Abnormal electrical properties of groups of heart cells
* Emphysema or other lung diseases
* Exposure to heart stimulants, such as caffeine, tobacco, or alcohol
* Rapidly firing triggers, ("hot spots") often located in the veins that return blood from the lungs to the heart (pulmonary veins) -- that cause atrial fibrillation.

My sister and I both have the same problem. She quit smoking and seems to have less episodes. I've noticed having it for about 25 years now, I'm 49 now and smoked since age 12. My tests showed all normal. Yes it's scarey when it happens, generally mine happen when sleeping and I wake up from it. Keep doing research on it.
