yeast occurs naturally in our vaginas, an "infection" is simply an overgrowth of that yeast. It happens because of an imbalance in the pH of the fluids in the vagina and that can be caused by a number of things, like bacterial infections or loss of the natural bacteria that keeps the yeast under control.
Antibiotics often cause yeast "infections". You can prevent most yeast problems by eating yogurt on a regular basis, and if you get a yeast infection you can usually get rid of it by using any number of the treatments available in any drug store, Monistat cream is the one I use.

A yeast infection is very uncomfortable. It's when the ph in your vagina is out of whack and too many yeast grow. You'll have whitish discharge and it will itch like hell. You can get rid of it by buying Monistat from the phramacy. You might want to see your gynocologist though if you're not sure if that's what you have.
