By all means do have your GP check out your heart. If the problem is anxiety the following information may help you. Stress is perhaps worse on the body than controlled medication.
Benzodiazepines (ben-zoe-dye-AZ-e-peens) belong to the group of drugs called central nervous system (CNS) depressants (medicines that slow down the nervous system).
Various benzodiazepines are used to relieve anxiety. However, benzodiazepines should not be used to relieve nervousness or tension caused by the stress of everyday life.
Some benzodiazepines are used to treat insomnia (trouble in sleeping). However, if used regularly (for example, every day) for insomnia, they usually are not effective for more than a few weeks.
Many of the benzodiazepines are used in the treatment of other conditions, also. Diazepam, also know as Vallium, is used to help relax muscles or relieve muscle spasm. Diazepam injection is used before some medical procedures to relieve anxiety and to reduce memory of the procedure. Chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, diazepam, and oxazepam are used to treat the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. Alprazolam and clonazepam are used in the treatment of panic disorder. Clobazam, clonazepam, clorazepate, diazepam, and lorazepam are used in the treatment of certain convulsive (seizure) disorders, such as epilepsy. The benzodiazepines may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Benzodiazepines may be habit-forming (causing mental or physical dependence), especially when taken for a long time or in high doses.
These medicines are available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms:
Antianxiety agents—Alprazolam (Xanax); Bromazepam; Chlordiazepoxide; Clorazepate; Diazepam (Vallium); Halazepam; Ketazolam; Lorazepam (Ativan); Oxazepam; Prazepam
Xanax (Alprazolam Intensol, Novo-Alprazol ) is a more mild drug for anxiety, though the body can get used to it too. Most doctors give Lorazepham (Ativan) because it is a slow release drug and even more mild than Diazepam and Alprazolam.
The key to using these drugs is to take them only when needed and make sure to have your doctor keep on eye on your usage.
Not that I advise the following personally;
The trend is to use a whole bunch of existing drugs “off-label,” which means to treat conditions that they’re not approved for by the FDA. We’re using anticonvulsants like Neurontin and Gabitril for anxiety. Seroquel, which works on schizophrenia and manic depression, also seems to control anxiety and stabilize sleep patterns in low doses. There was a study in which one group of dental-phobic patients were given Geodon, an anti-psychotic, and another group was given Valium before a dental visit. Geodon was just as effective as Valium, but without the sedative effect.
For something non-addictive, I would recommend half of a traditional Unisom. It is even safe for pregnant women. A Benadryl can also do wonders, and you will breath better. ;) One should never drive while on anti-anxiety drugs.

Well, initially, the modern substitute for Valium, was Xanax (generic name is Alprazolam). However, it was found to be more addictive than Valium. Then, Klonopin came along, which is a longer acting anti-anxiety medication. Most anti-anxiety meds do require a prescription. Some people try Tylenol PM to help them sleep. But, all it is, is Tylenol Extra strength(actetaminophen)Benadryl( an anti-histamine ) that has a side effect of causing drowsiness. Each is available over-the-counter. No need to purchase Tylenol PM. It's less expensive to just purchase the generic Tylenol and the generic Benadryl ( Diphenhydramine hydrochloride). If you are having a fast heart beat, which can be occur from stress, too much caffeine but, it's best to call your Doc, just to rule out other causes. He or she, can offer you suggestions based on your physical findings. Sometimes, the Doc may prescribe a mild tranquilizer ( Ativan, generic is Lorazepam) for short term use. If there is a heart irregularity, then a Beta-Blocker will be prescribed to calm the heart down. But, such medications, will not help you sleep or relax you. Ativan can be addictive but, it less likely when compared to the other meds that I mentioned. Routine exercise is a great stress reliever. However, before you take on any exercise schedule, you should see your Doc. When was your last physical?? What is normal?? How old are you?? I hope that this helps. Good Luck !!

Long term use of Valium is addictive. Therefore, you might want to revisit the reason you are taking it. Do you really need to take it any more? The body develops a tolerance over time and it may be that you don't need it. you must go off of it slowly. As far as a substitute is concerned, you must discuss with your doctor the original reasons for taking it. If it is due to anxiety your doctor might try newer and more effective medicines in the anti-depressent category. The question of substitute really is better rephrased by saying re-evaluate your need for it and then establish what the best medicine is available.

exercise is the best natural medicine for anxiety! It will help you stay focused, sleep better and have an overall better feeling mentally and physically.
There is a tea that you can buy over the counter (I think even at Walmart) called Valarian. It is the natural form of valium. You could drink this at night to relax and calm down - Also "Sleepytime Tea" sold in grocery stores is nice. But get out there for a walk, run or some form of exercise!

Why you looking for medication? There is no such thing as a safe medication, they are all dangerous to someone, they all have side effects. I am not saying we should stop using them I am saying we should look at alternatives, that work, first.
Why do you get anxious? what is the root of your anxiety? Are there any coping mechanisms that you could use, are there any effective relaxation and emergency control methods that you could learn?
I suggest you visit a counsellor and/or a cognitive behavioural therapist before trying tablets.
By the way, there are NO tablets for anxiety that are not addictive. There very natue is to make you feel better, therefore you will become psychologically addicted if not physically addicted.
Good luck

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Have yourself checked out with a good physician regarding your heart problem and he will ensure you that you are not placed on addictive medication.
There are many web sites, who claim to provide medications online, but how will you adjust the dose, to day its 2mg, after 1 week it will be 5mg, 15 days-10 mg, after 1month it is going to be 20, the tolerance will keep on increasing, I have seen patients taking a fistful of this 5mg of Valium and still wide awake, but they don't eat food!!!!to keep themselves tuned.
So, how much are you going to buy online, after 3 months, and amount of money will you spend?just in vain.
The FDA/WHO is taking serious view of this, and soon these web sites will come to an end. Where will you land?

Kava Kava extract calms the nerves naturally and also gives a feeling of well being. Valium calms the nerves but is also a depressant.
