Nurse Practitioners can prescribe and treat under the supervison of an M.D. It is a very good way of providing low-cost diagnosis and care for more common ailments i.e. bronchitis versus pneumonia, colds, vaccinations and the like. An experienced Nurse Practitioner is just as good as being seen by an M.D.

ARNP...stepped forward Registered Nurse Practitioner. Masters-point nurse (MSN) that could focus on one among a number of techniques, alongside with Dermatology, in many situations occurring Care, severe Care, Anesthesia....to call some. ALL states enable ARNP's to prescribe and prepare with no well being care expert....a huge distinction between PA's and Nurse Practitioner.

The nurse can dispense meds that have already been prescribed by a physician. The nurse is NOT allowed to give prescription meds that have not been prescribed already, however, even if she is sure that the doctor WILL prescribe them soon. I know someone who almost lost her license by doing this.

No. A nurse cannot prescribe meds. She can dispense those prescribed by the doctor. If the nurse is a nurse practitioner then she may write
prescriptions because she works directly under a doctor.

It has been my LONG experience, that a Dr. needs to sign off on any of those prescriptions. Even a Physicians Assistant, who 'acts' like a doctor in most situations, has the actual med prescribed under a Doctor's name.

In some cases yes this is normal. However with some medications a Doctor has to be the one who prescribes them.
