Everyone always likes the music they liked in high school. So have music from the early '60s. But don't limit it to that era. If you want people to dance, then you need music from all eras that the guests are from or in. Older guests will like music from the '50s. Younger from their time. And there are classics from all decades that everyone will dance to. Have any of your friends get married recently? If so, talk to them, they went thru the same problem

Perry Como music while they eat buffet (maybe fancy gourmet sandwiches) , disco music afterwards (some to dance to, some to sing with)...and a bunny hop near the end of the day when everyone has had a few drinks from your spiked punchbowl. Make sure people are staying in hotels near the party so they don't have to drive. chips and spinach dip are nice for afterwards. Decorate the cake with lots of pretty flowers and make sure it's light (so diabetics can eat it too and those on diets). Have enough cake for each person to take home and start cutting it at 4. Four hours isn't really enough time to have a party and fun. Will you have rsvp? If so maybe they can bring their own bottle, and tell them to come casual.

I would hire a DJ that was willing to play primarily music your Mother enjoys, not just the popular stuff. I assume many of your guests would be her contemporaries--her friends, co-workers, family members etc. For it to be truly enjoyable for her, music that makes her foot tap is required, especially if she wants to dance! At my father's 70th bday party, we set up a CD player/changer with about 10 CDs with music from primarily the 70s, with some earlier stuff thrown in. (We did 70s music because that is the decade he did most of his "cattin' around"/midlife crises dancing, wining and dining) It worked really well. We also made sure that the music was not too loud so he could chat with all his friends and HEAR them! (a bit hard of hearing). People did dance and had a lovely time--he thought it was great. I was a little hesitant to make it surprise party, but it worked out ok--no one got hurt! Also, at his age, not many contemporaries around, so we did invite many friends from over the years--old and young. We also did picture boards--poster size collages of his life in photographs with his friends and family. It turned out really nice. Good luck and get lots of pics! Make her a photo album from all the pics so she remembers what a great party it was on her 60th!

You should hire a DJ that will play music she grew up listening to. Some rock and roll and slow music from the 60's would be just right. It was music you could actually dance to. I know, because I'm right around your mother's age.

you recognize, I fairly am greater conscious of those issues now than i used to be. i don't complication with regard to the message of them insofar as i recognize, as a actual looking and to blame person, that the game/show/etc. is entertainment in basic terms. i'm able to play or watch it and luxuriate in it for what it fairly is - a break from fact. they don't impression my morals or the way I habit myself with others. That being pronounced, I do complication approximately how those video games are perceived with the aid of babies. i does not choose for my young ones (as quickly as we've them) enjoying video games that are so bloody or violent until eventually they're plenty older and arranged to place the violence and tale or the game in context. Its a not basic question nonetheless; how plenty is purely too plenty? And the place can we draw that line? And who attracts that line; society? The legislatures? the parents? in my opinion, my vote is for the parents.

Maybe have a list of her favorite songs And your mom, and her friends can maybe play bingo, or a game they enjoy. Yeah, maybe you can have slow dancing, like your mom's friends husbands can come, but I'm pretty sure they will come.
