I became a vegetarian because it is the natural diet for humans. There are so many reasons: our stomach acid is not as strong as that of carnivors; we do not have real canine teeth needed for tearing meat, but flat molars for grinding grains and veggies; we are sippers of water (carnivors are "lappers"); our intestines are longer than that of carnivors and so on.
Theoretical starts for man's consumption of meat:
From a biblical point of view: Adam was told that the grain of the fields would be as his meat with compsumption of meat becoming necessary after the great flood destroyed all the vegetation.
From an evolutionary view: Man most likely ate vegies prior to the discovery of fire which became necessary to help him survive the ice age (vegetation became scarce and animals were killed because their fur was necessary for warmth and their meat cooked to make up for the lack of other food sources)

Hi, My daughter was diagnosed with a very serious health issue 6 months ago. She changed to an all raw, vegan diet to turn her health around. To support her, we also jumped on board. No half measures for the 4 of us (daughter, her husb., & us) - boom, 100%. We gradually added a few cooked items over the months that we wanted. We are not fanatic about anything. I did a great deal of research on the subject and am satisfied we are eating a very healthy diet.
Here is my personal experience: In 6 months time, my cholesterol dropped 42 pts to 170 (normal range is <239); my Trigliceride is 107 (normal range <199), HDL is 55 (normal >45), LDL is 94 (normal <129), my ALT (liver) is 21 (normal <36), fasting glucose is 74 (normal is 60 - 99), and my blood panel is that of a healthy 18 yr old. And, I am 69 yrs old and have lost 20 lbs (my husb. lost 30).
We have done this without ever being hungry, without any medications - I only take thyroid Rx. My memory is so much better, sharper. I need less sleep, my complexion is clear and has really lovely color and texture. My usual 'old lady' aches and pains seem to be clearing up by themselves.
I have adapted many favorite recipes to vegan & mostly raw and don't miss much of the old diet.
To give you better clarity and understanding of the healthful reasons for changing to a plant based vegan diet, I recommend that you read "The China Study" by C. Colin Campbell, Ph. D. It's an easy read & you can find it both in book stores and the library.
Another book I recommend is Dr. Gabriel Cousens "Rainbow Living Green diet". There are many books on the market explaining the health benefits of this type of diet, but I like this one because he is a medical dr who has also gotten his education in the holistic field and can speak on both levels.
My daughter is not out of the woods with her health issues yet, but we feel confident that this diet is helping her tremendously. Her blood panel is now that of a healthy person. We are waiting for her body to recognize that and kick back into gear.
I hope this is helpful to you.

I am a vegetarian because I simply cannot stomach, let alone enjoy meat when I know how these creatures are killed. Even 'free range' chickens have a better life, sure, but they are still slaughtered for human consumption. In this day and age, there are intellegent choices to be made - in my opinion choosing to be a vegetarian is the right choice. I cannot participate in the murder of these living creatures. It is a personal choice and so I don't lecture others or ask that people refrain from eating meat around me if I'm dining with others. I guess simply put, dead flesh is dead flesh and that is disgusting to me. I have seen how cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals are killed and there's no reason for me to support that. I KNOW meat is delicious but it doesn't justify me consuming or supporting meat eating when there are so many healthy, delicious options that do not involve killing of other living things.

I don't eat any meat or dairy
1) the thought of eating meat makes me sick to my stomach - I don't know why
2) when I did eat meat (I quit 4+ years ago - it made me nauseous.
3) health reasons/
4) I never ate much meat - I never really enjoyed it and I never liked it. I have followed a near vegan diet since high school.
why eat meat when I can have all the rasberries I want?

It's kinda hard for me to explain why I'm vegan. I mean, I don't condemn or condone others who eat meat, and I don't preach my beliefs to them just as I would hope they wouldn't preach theirs to me. I'm a vegan because, for me personally, it just feels right. My mind feels cleaner and purer, my body feels more healthy, and I'm just an overall happier person. I just feel that being vegan is part of my life path, if that makes any sense. Like I said, I don't preach being vegan to anyone. I respect not only animals, but people as well. while I might not agree with their choices, I try to respect them the same way I'd like them to respect me.

I practice martial arts.. My art is based off of balance.. Respect for the energy.. I will not take part in the disrespectful slaughter of animals..... To take the life the way Factory farms do is disrespectful to the spirit of the animal. The disrespect lingers the suffering lingers and remains for the hungry to consume..

A vegan is a certain type of vegetarian it means you eat no animal products, even milk and eggs. There are many different types of vegetarians. Vegan, Lacto-Vegetarian (which means you drink milk but dont eat eggs), Ovo-vegetarian (which means you eat eggs but you dont drink milk), Lacto- Ovo- Vegetarian (which means you eat both), Pesco- Vegetarian (which means you eat fish), and of course there is meat eater! Most people choose to be a vegan because of their religion, or because they are against animal cruelty.
