The burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity has gone on for years, similar for Nuclear energy. Windfarms seem to offer a great alternative, being a "green" way to produce energy, and are popular over Europe.

Why do people, especially the local population, object when a wind farm is proposed somewhere in the UK..? Would this not be a good thing...?

because they say it ruins the scenery.....I cant see why every home cant have one wind turbine to help power their homes it would reduce CO2 emissions significantly.. and save you Money!

People typically do not want a wind turbine near their home, because it can lower their property values. Wind turbines, although very clean, tend to be noisy; 50-70 decibels at a minimum (about the level of a loud conversation).

Another thing holding the wind turbine back is that it is rather inefficient. While nuclear plants have an efficiency of about 90%, natural gas about 85%, and coal plants about 80%, wind turbines' efficiency are determined by the local weather patterns every day. A calm day means a 0% efficient wind turbine, and no power is produced that day. At best, the wind turbine can have an efficiency of up to 70%, far less than its fossil fuel and nuclear counterparts.

Again, wind turbines are a very clean source of power, creating zero pollution and using only renewable energy sources (namely, the wind). However, they do not create nearly enough power for world (or UK) demands. You'd need literally THOUSANDS of wind turbines to power London, whereas it takes just a couple coal-fired plants or even a single nuclear plant to do the same job.

Yes, wind is a very underutilized energy source. I don't know why people would complain as long as they're not placed too close to homes. In fact, I've read about proposals to put little windmills right next to homes to power them, but these mini windmills would be too small to produce more than about 5% of a home's energy needs.

We need to put more money into windfarms and other renewable energy though.

It could help but it's reliability is poor. Here in Texas when U need the lights at night the wind stops blowing.

Wind turbines are unsightly when compared with the natural environment.. they break up natural scenery so mostly it is ascetics..

However, wind turbines can kill birds in significant numbers and be noisy... so
