Go to the book store and spend some time browsing through vegetarian and vegan books. Read and educate yoruself while learning how to eat on your new diet. It's a learn as you go process.
Vegetarians typically eat dairy and eggs, while vegans do not. There's lots more to know than that though. Go read!!! Research!!! Good luck and good job! :)

There are three "standards" of vegetarianism.
There are the ova/lacto vegetarians. They eat eggs and milk products, because no animal is killed to get them.
Then there is the total vegetarian, who eats nothing that has an animal source, eats only plant material (and fungi).
Then there is the fruitarian, who eats nothing that kills the plant, will only eat seeds and fruits.
I personally do not consider those who eat chicken and fish to be vegetarians at all.

you need to vitamin b12 which is found in certain cereal ,energy bars and supplements.
eat fruits,vegetables,nuts,legumes,grains,soy products,cheese and eggs.
and yes,you can eat butter and margarine in small amounts.
i am thirteen have been avoiding eating animal flesh and products for about 3 months .it's not easy first, but if you make a commitment you can be a healthy vegetarian.after two weeks you'll start to pick it up.

i decided to go vegan about two weeks ago so im still pretty new to this as well. someone showed me this website called www.sparkspeople.com . its pretty nifty and lets you look up most foods or add your own foods. you can plan your meals to see if you're getting all the recommended nutrients and such.
good luck :)
