First congrads for the thought and the dedication to try.. if only everyone just tried…

You could try to live consumer free.. especially if you live in the city or close by.. Unless you move and camp for a month it would be hard to be total green. We tried a not buying anything new group. I for get the exact name… but the idea is not to purchase any thing……then say your sandal breaks and you cant fix it….. buy second hand and so on… also if ya have to buy some thing new like a new water filter….than purchase from mom and pop store not the humongous ones..
I believe it’s the little things that add up …so stop using chemical cleaners go back to vinegar and baking soda and cleanser go arm n hammer (the only national main stream green com.) simple green all the way. Cleans everything and safe too. I am sure that there are other good ones out there but I am hooked on that one..I recycle and save all kinds of things when I get a bag full of one thing saved, I offer it on freecycle and some teacher ( or some one)grabs up the 20 save crystal light containers for a crafts project. My latest is saving and sanitizing the meet Styrofoam containers plan to take 2 fill with peanuts seal and put between studs in garage for insulation???? Cant hurt.. will see… not sure if this helped but some good food for though as we use to say good luck every little bit does make a difference. I am always surprised how fast my recycling bins fill up especially the paper and I do save all paper. I find that I walk through the whole house with this little piece of paper I could have tossed in numerous trash cans on the way but I am trained now and it is on auto pilot until I get to the bin and see how small 2”x2” piece of paper is and I laugh but know I am doing good and I pat my self an the back, and hope others do the same thing…
Best of luck think green

Look. Americans will not "settle for less".

So if you're going to live green as an example for other Americans, then simply conserving isn't enough. You have to find ways to live just as well, and still be green.

And the #1 non-green thing in most people's lives is their CAR. They're gasoline cars, so biodiesel doesn't help them. (ethanol is a lost cause.) And they live in suburban sprawl so they can't live without a car. Anyway, if you want to live green, you won't be driving. Unless it's diesel.

Living in the city is one way to live decently without a car.

Air conditioning and other electric stuff... sure turn it down, but mainly, offset!! Invest in wind/solar power to more than offset the electricity you use. And the fuel your food suppliers burn. And the fuel used to make the consumer products you buy. Etc.

Say you move to San Francisco's Duboce triangle. All the transit around there is electric, powered by hydroelectric. The transit is really good and practically free, so your car and all your car expense go away. All told that's $400-800 a month for most people, that pays the extra cost of rent! No need for A/C since it's San Francisco :) Heat is electric, but so are windmills.

DO NOT COMPLICATE THIS FOR YOURSELF!
Congrats for even thinking the thought, but don't over think this one.
The very "best" green living one can do--by a long shot--is to do as little as possible--consume as little as possible.
Living green is no more complicated than this, really!
Do less, or do nothing at all! Read, play acoustic instruments, dance! Fast, love, laugh!
And go for more! Next time try two months!

Wow. That will be HARD, if you ask me. But here's my advice:

Don't eat meat. The meat industry is THE largest factor in global warming and water pollution. http://www.goveg.com

To keep cool, go into the basement, since you're not using air-conditioning.

Sorry, that's all I can think of on the spur of the moment; if I can think of anything else I'll edit this. Congrats on spending that month living green--for me that'd be next to impossible!

3. unplug any electronic devices that you aren't using

dulux

you cant live 'green' for a month-- a poxy carrot takes a couple of months to grow!!!!
its impossible to live green if you live in the city-- you would need at least an acre .
surely buying a different light bulb isnt living green. its just not as polluting
if you powered it yourself -would be different

Keep up to it. See the dateline and the satisfaction you would get from it, and not the journey.

He he. I know this sounds opposite from what philosophers will say. But sometimes we need to achieve that goal no matter what. It's a stronger motivation that just saying let's have a journey filled with flowers and thorns...

If you are using a computer, I think you have already failed living "totally" green. Computers use electricity and are a luxury, not a necessity.
