Vegetarians dont eat animals...period.

This is something that is said to make it more apparent as to what a vegetarian will and won't eat. It's not a 'rule' or a hard and fast statement as to what a person "can not" eat.

TO directly answer your question, a vegetarian can eat anything that they want to. No vegetarian police will come and arrest a wayward vegetarian. However, if a vegetarian ate clams, they would no longer be a vegetarian.

It really comes down to biological taxonomy where eating living organisms in the Animal Kingdom (Animalia) is not vegetarian.

Of course, you have vegetarians that still eat meat, but they aren't true vegetarians. Those are just people that want to be part of a crowd and like the attention they get for being a "vegetarian".

The "not eating anything with a face" analogy is just a simple explaination, but some people still don't get it. Do you?

Clams have faces.
But that's not the rule; it's that we cannot eat any Sentient Creatures.
P.S. ~ You're NOT a vegetarian if you eat CHICKEN or SEAFOOD!!! and if you don't know what pseudo means look it up!

I think that you are mistaken. Vegetarians can eat anything they like...... lobsters, clams, cows, chickens.....
It has nothing to do with can't do this or can't do that......
It is a simple matter of don't want to by choice.... not can't.

A pescatarian would eat seafood, a vegetarian does not. No creatures of any kind if you are a veggie.

Its not that they dont eat anything with a face, its that they don't eat any meat, which would include clams.
However it depends on how strict a vegetarian they are.
For me, I eat eggs, but no meat and no dairy.

I always say, "I don't eat anything with a face or that makes it's own home." :-) Covers anything alive that's not a plant.
