for STDs or an STD to show up after unprotected sex. I know HIV can take months to detect, but what about other STDs. Also, which ones are treatable and are there any other permanent ones besides warts, herpes and aids?

Hope this helps

Chlamydia (curable) - many people have no symptoms, those that do occur from 2-6 weeks after exposure. Testing times depend on type of test used (culture, NAAT) NAAT testing can be done anytime after exposure, cultures usually need at least 48 hours after exposure

Gonorrhea (curable) - women most often don't have symptoms, most men do experience symptoms. 48 hours at least is needed before testing

Syphilis (curable) - consists of 4 stages. primary syphilis symptoms can occur 3 days - 3months post exposure for the painless chancre to develop, secondary syhpilis can occur 2-24 weeks post exposure. Syphilis testing can be complicates and should be done by someone experienced in syhphilis diagnosis and management

Genital Herpes (Herpes Simplex 2, and sometimes 1) (no cure, though one can go on suppresion therapy to reduce outbreaks) Not everyone gets symptoms, those that do usually emerge 2-21 days after initial infection (usually after 6 days)

Hepatitis B (90% will get rid of the virus naturally, the rest develop chronic Hep B) In up to 50% of people there are no outward signs of infection. Up to 8 weeks after exposure to the virus, some people will begin to experience symptoms

HIV (not curable) 75% of people will test positive after 20 days, 95% will test positive by 8 weeks, and 99% by 12-13 weeks. Most people don't experience any symptoms until having HIV for many years, sometimes as much as 10 years (or longer). The only way to know is to get tested.

HPV (most HPV infections clear naturally within 2 years) Many who are infected with low risk types have no symptoms (do not develop warts or lesions). In some people, anogenital (genitals and rectum) warts develop 1-8months post exposure on the vulva, cervix, penis, scrotum, anus, or urethra. HPV (regardless of type) are SLOW moving viruses. It can take years for long term complications to arise.

Syphillis, gonorrea and Chlamydia can usually be detected within 2 - 3 weeks. These 3 are curable with antibiotics.

Antibodies for HIV for the most part can be detected within 3 months. HIV is treatable with a wide range of drugs. There is no cure.

An annual pap smear may detect HPV. There are treatments for HPV, but you'll never be "cured" of it.

Herpes is a bit trickier - usually doctors wait until you have an outbreak to test. There are many drugs that treat Herpes, again - there is no cure.

If you ask your doctor or STD clinic to test you - they will generally test for a variety of STDs, and also HIV.

If you're worried about your parents finding out, most states ensure that minors can be tested without parental consent or knowledge.

It really depends on the STD. It can take several months and even years sometimes for symptoms of STDs to show up. Many STDs have no signs or symptoms and that's why a lot of people are unaware they even have one.

STDs caused by bacteria are treatable and curable. These STDs include syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and some other less common ones.

STDs caused by parasites are also treatable and curable. Some of these STDs include trichomoniasis, crabs (pubic lice) and scabies.

The STDs that can NOT be cured are caused by viruses. Some of these STDs include HIV/AIDS, HPV (which causes genital warts), herpes, and hepatitis. There are treatments for these STDs, but there are no cures.

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes virus (type 2) about 5 years ago, when I was still in college and had a silly one-night stand. I understand lots of young women say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date men again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl that has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/sCySg everything improved.

Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my system in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This system provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

Permanent other than the ones you listed....No; permanent side effects YES! Different STD's vary in how much time it takes for them to show. Women are usually the carriers and because of the vagina being moist and dark it usually takes longer for any symptoms to show for a female. Most common are unusal discharges, with odors and colors, and pain during sex or urinating.
