Yes. But if he plans to continue he should take them right away. But im curious what gave him the chest pains?
Doxycycline's side effects (tetracycline) makes you darker in the sun....(My cousins take tetracycline for acne)
and metronidazole's side effects are nausea, diarrhea, and/or metallic taste. Infrequent adverse effects include: hypersensitivity reactions (rash, itch, flushing, fever), headache, dizziness, vomiting, glossitis, stomatitis, dark urine, and/or paraesthesia.
Antibiotics should never be stopped as they loose their effectiveness in backing your virus into a corner and killing it.

Sounds to me like he may be allergic to the antibiotics. That metronidazole is flagyl a nasty medication.....can be deadly if he is allergic to it. I recommend you contact a pharmacist who knows whether or not your boyfriend or both of you are allergic to the medication. You both have to be treated....if he is your boyfriend. Be very cautious with antibiotics.....not all are mild. When picking up medication from the pharmacy I always ask for a print out of the side effects. It is better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck.

I guess you could.... Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic (not as broad as penicillin). It won't do anything for the pain or swelling DIRECTLY, all it does is fight the bacterial infection. So you're not using it to "treat" an abscessed tooth, you're taking it to prevent or fight off an infection that is the underlying cause. So, if your abscess was truly due to a bacterial infection then yes, doxycycline COULD eliminate the infection as long as you have a full course of antibiotics.

This doesn't sound like a mere side effect. It sounds like an allergy to me. I would have him stop taking both medications and see the doctor about possibly prescribing a new antibiotic.

for all medications there is a set amount for treatment , so for the medication to be effective the entire medication must be consumed, don't forget certain medications come with side effects.
