Or just a community ongoing that is meant to support the poor (by sharing the meat) and breed love and association?

In my 9 years of Islamic Education Ive never received teaching that said animal slaughter was for salvation in Islam. Christians and Jews have a common misconception that it is, so I would like to know.

I agree, in Islam, salvation by slaughter is achievable only if the slaughtered ones are humans, preferably infidels.

First of all,
There is no salvation in Islam. You will be rewarded for how much good deeds you do, and punished for how much sins you do.

Second of all,
The Islamic way of slaughtering animals is the most peaceful/healthy way.

When slaughtering animals,
only the throat and the two viens sending blood to the brain whould be cut. Then the brain will suffer shortage of blood and it will communicate with the heart to pump blood. Then you will see a lot of blood coming out. After a couple of minutes, you will see the animal streatching and the muscles reflexes to get more blood.

Therefore, there will be very little blood in the animals body which is healthier to eat.

Also, the animal will be brain dead quickly that it won't feel a thing.

In comparisons to other ways,
Some people shoot the animal right in the head, that causes a faster death, but a painful one due to brain damage.
Also, it is not a healthy way. Most of the blood will remain inside the animals body, even if you cut its throat.

Something to think about...

Anyone who eats meat participates in animal slaughter, if only indirectly. Slaughter is an very accurate term for industrial food processing in the USA.

Animal sacrifice, on the other hand, is done with reverence and respect, with a sense of awe in the mystery of life and death. It is not done for salvation but for connection with divinity. It may also be done for connection with tradition and ancestral folkways.

Sacrifice is done with thanks to the animal for the nourishment its flesh provides and with gratitude to diety, who may or may not be honored with a share of the flesh. The specifics depend on the faith tradition involved. I do not speak for Islam here, of which I know little, but for other faiths.

How would Christian and Jews know how Muslims achieve salvation in Islam?

You bet. Because if they keep on slaughtering humans sooner or later no salvation will be available. The humans will get tired and just do the same to them. At least animals cant fight back nor threat their salvation.

I'm a Muslim and was vegetarian for about 4 months...but I stopped...I eat very little meat and when I do it is either halal, organic or kosher =] Animals deserve respect; if you treat them right then you can achieve salvation.

as far as i knoe that if christians sin they have to sacrifice an animal or something to relieve themselves of this sin commited

as muslims we sacrifice following in the prophet abrahms footsteps when he was tested by god to sacrifice his son.

the meat is then meant to be distrubuted out to poor family accordingly
