I'm really tired of cleaning up sheets all the time! My 12 year old boy wets the bed 5-6 times a week and I'm really tired of it. Sometimes he's playing videogames, and he gets so into it that completely forgets about the restroom and just pees himself! Huggies has a new size 7 diaper and I know it should fit him. I think he needs to go back to wearing diapers, or at LEAST to bed. I just wanna know if I should put the diaper on him if he insists on not wearing it?.. I know I should probably insist until he puts it on himself, but I'm not a patient person and I'll rather do it quick

this is a serious problem and you as the parent need to address it right away!!

i would start by making an appt to see his dr. he could have a pyschological or chemical problem going on that is causing this. wetting the bed at age 12 is NOT normal.

if it's only during the times he's playing video games-then TAKE THE GAMES AWAY!! after the first two times-you should have done this already!! my 4 year old gets in trouble if she ignores her body telling her it's potty time b/c she's too busy playing. remove the game system from his room and tell him that he's too old to be peeing himself and that since he can't act like a big boy-then he doesn't need to play video games like a big boy.

if it's overnite-then yes put him in special diapers-huggies makes some called overnites that are designed for this type of problem. but start a routine in which you cut off his fluids about 2 hours before bed-no more to drink. and make sure he empties his bladder right before going to sleep.

make that appt right away to have him seen-unless you get to the source of the problem and correct it-this will continue and might get worse.

I totally understand what you are going through. My son who is 11, and will be 12 in 5 months does this same thing. He changes his own underwear about 3 times a day because he has accidents while playing video games or other activities. He is just too busy to go to the bathroom. He doesn't wet at night anymore, so I don't have the problem with the sheets. It is not an incontinence problem because I have taken him to the doctors and had him checked. This is alot more common than people might think. Just be patient with him and don't embarrass him.

Although I generally agree with everyone about taking your boy to the doctor and making sure he is not suffering from some kind of physical problem or mental problem, I tend to agree more with Lyn.

Put him in a diaper, make him clean his own sheets and clothing and TAKE AWAY THE VIDEO GAMES.

If that kid is so into video games that he doesn't even realize that his is peeing then he has a problem alright, he has too much time on his hands and someone needs to wake him up and bring him back to the real world.

If he doesn't have the video games then he won't have to worry about his friends seeing his diaper while playing them. I'd give it a couple of weeks, making him wear them at home only, making him doing his own laundry and making him do something constructive with his time instead of all the video games.

Of course you also have the possibility that maybe you would be doing to him exactly what he wants. Maybe he wants to wear diapers and is hoping that you will put him in them.

Whatever you decide,

Good luck.

Definitley have your son checked out by a doctor. Urinary incontinence is no joking matter and is equally disturbing for your child as it is for you. Stress is often a factor in bedwetting, so belittling him will do more harm than good, I'm afraid. While your frustration is warranted, be supportive in finding a solution that works for both of you.

For sure, he should change his own bedsheets & be responsible for the laudrying as well.

If the video games are distracting him to the point of wetting himself...time to wean him off of them.

Limit drinks after a certain time and remind him before he goes to bed to go to the bathroom.

If everything checks out with the doctor, I would recommend a child counselor or pyschologist to find out what the underlying problem is...

Best wishes to you and your son

I highly suggest a trip to the doctor, then a trip to a counselor!

Are you really saying that you plan to use diapers on a twelve year old rather than finding out if there is a physical problem or trying to use behavior changing techniques?

Do not enable his behavior. And do not use humiliation for a quick fix!

If he is wetting at night, it's a common problem. If he is just being lazy while playing video games, then take the games away until he can learn to go to the restroom when he needs to. You'll get a much better response to that than you will treating him like a baby.

If this is actually a serious question, then the answer is to make him clean his own sheets. In fact, 12 is old enough to be responsible for all his laundry. And while we're at it, video games should be limited to 1 hour a day, and that includes adults. Believe me, that last one comes from experience.

How about taking your Son to the Doctors and finding out the "root" of the problem!

Its either psycological or physical, and both can be treated... Instead of embarrasing the young lad at home and in front of his friends. (If he has friends over to play video games, and the diaper "shows" beneath his clothes, he will be the butt of jokes all over school and you DONT want THAT for a child!!!

They have drugs that may control his ability to go, or, he may even have a postrate problem, preventing him from going when he "wants to", thus, it lets lose when he is least expecting it...(yes, children can have postrate problems too!).

So, before the Gestapo Tactical lessons on how to make a kid hate his parents enough to "go off on them"... Get him some Professional help!

I wish you well...

Jesse

Id start on the diapers. If it is a genuine bladder issue then it saves a lot of hassel. If it is just laziness then he might think twice about it if he has to wear a diaper. My sister had to wear them until she was 17 because she had no bladder control of a night and it took that long for her to grow out of it.

Good God, I hope you are joking! If not, get him to a doctor to make sure there is nothing phyiscally wrong and then if not, just get rid of the video game and teach him to wash his own sheets. Under NO circumstances should you use diapers.
