I'm a Christian and for defending the country against enemies. But, it seems that a lot of Christians are way too hawkish when it comes to pre-emptive attacks of foreign countries.

Jesus said that we should love our enemies and forgive them or else we can not recieve forgiveness.

I believe that many Christians don't truely trust God and try to make their own way through the world. Plus so many Christians are Christians in name only and do not even know what the fruits of the spirit are, so how can they attempt to follow them. Also among the "Christian Right" there is this idea that they can delay the tribulation from coming, so they wrongly think that they can manipulate God's plan for earth. In doing so they are just setting up the pieces for the end times to occur. Some Christians really do believe in the seperation of Church and State and so they vote in a way that does not combine their individual religious principals for matters of state.

Jesus taught that defending oneself is right. You may remember were Jesus asks for swords and was content with ONLY two (John 2:36-38). Barely enough for the disciples to defend themselves, but not enough to start a war.

The argument is whether a pre-emptive attack is defensive or offensive. Regarding World War II, I believe this was a defensive war and needful. In fact it appears that we entered into the war on the late side.

Great question. I'd answer, "why not?" They are being directed by their religious leaders who endorse war. Who are they to over rule their priest/pope/bishop/pastor, . . .

It's dangerous, but true. Jeremiah 10:23 and Psalms 146:3

At Isaiah 48:18, God pleads with His people to accept his direction. The same is true today. We should all follow Jesus' footsteps closely - not a preacher (1 Peter 2:21). That's what God wants us to do.

A true Christian would never engage in murder.

Sadam invaded Kuwait and many innocent people suffered because of it. USA was able to liberate those people. Were we wrong for protecting innocent people? Many Christians are divided against the war in Iraq. I support protecting innocent lives, but I also hate war.
There are and always will be people that want to rule the world at all costs.
You must ask yourself, if there were a group of people killing your neighbors and taking their possessions, what would you do?
USA takes no possessions. USA only liberates the innocents.

Maybe. But 'god' was really keen on violent attacks and massacres, encouraging Joshua and many others to go out and dispose of people (men, women, children) in great numbers.

It's all in the bible and if the bible is god's word, completely true and as relevant today as it was back then (all claims heard frequently by christians), then why shouldn't christians go forth and nuke others?

Basic lack of understanding. Many christians don't get the basic tenets of the religion they try to convert others to.

Christians are not pro war. As you've stated, Christ teaches that we must love our enemies and forgive those who sin against us. Since the word Christian means 'follower of Christ', we must conclude that those who are pro war are not followers of Christ. Therefore, Christains are not pro war.

Because religion is a primitive concept. It encourages division amongst humanity just like tribes of cavemen. The world is divided up into three main monotheistic religions and the two main combatants both want world domination and they will stop at nothing to achieve it.
