Given that you don`t say much about your husband, other than you think he drinks too much and that he's not happy that you called him a drunk, it's hard to say.
The diagnostic bible of the mental health professions, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (now in its 4th edition, hence it's called the DSM-IV) has a pretty pragmatic way of defining alcohol abuse or alcoholism. It states that someone has an alcohol problem is his or her alcohol use leads to problems at school, work, physical or mental health, in social functioning, or problems with the law.
Using this approach, look at how many areas of your husband`s life are being affected and decide then whether he has a problem.
As for how you deal with this, calling your husband a drunk ìs not all that helpful. I would suggest that you attend a few Alanon meetings; this is an organization for people who have an alcoholic in their lives. Read some of their literature and follow what they say. All anyone can ever do when they have an addict in their lives is learn to take care of themselves and hope that the addict gets better.

It really depends how much he drinks everyday. If he drinks only 1 or 2 beers, then you really have nothing to worry about. If he gets drunk every night, then they may be a problem.

I feel sorry for you. he seems to be what I have always heard of as "A functional drunk"..or a functional alcoholic.
Depends on how many beers he drinks.
1 or 2, OK. But more than two...he needs professional help.
One of my pet peeves is being around a drunk.
It is very hard to communicate with someone who is intoxicated. I know. I have been there, and its a miserable life to bear.
As far as you calling him a "drunk"...well, he is probably mad because you hit a nerve and called him what he knows he really is. He seems to be "in denial"..probably.
GOOD ADVICE: .As long as you..his wife, ACCEPTS his drinking, then you are giving him your OK...that it is alright.! ! !
If you dont want a drunk for a husband..then stand up to him, and give him a choice.Tell him, it's got to be the beer, or me. You deserve better.Good luck . and STAND your ground. Tough love is what my mother used to say. It can makes life SO MUCH better.

First off your husband is a drunk not an alcoholic.... Alcoholics go to meetings, He works not violent to you, I hope not, Works on the house it's fine if that's the way he unwinds, I'm sure that he drank before you got married, Bottom line my opion let him enjoy himself.

It’s not necessary to revert to name calling, I am sure you hurt his feelings. If you are worried about his drinking habits then suggest a solution like reading a book on moderate drinking.., if that doesn’t work then a counsellor or rehab. Focus on his positives, because by running him down he’s just going to want to drink more to cope with his depression about it.
Good luck!

yes he is a drunk...not an alcohlic because he doesnt go to the meetings. If you find him intolerable when hes drinking then you have to deal with that, try Al-anon (in the phone book) He's not going to change unless he's made to.
