I was about to eat a couple hot pockets when I noticed one of them had hard black stuff all over one part of it. They had been in there for a while. I know it wasn't freezer burn because that just makes them more leathery and darker, but not black like this. Also, it was kind of speckled in small amounts in other places on it. So I was wondering if it was mold or if they burnt it there when they pre-cooked it originally. I had kept them in the freezer, so if it was mold I would be surprised.

Thanks for the answers so far everyone. The more I think about it, it was probably charred because it was worse in the grooves where it rested during precooking. I just threw it out and fixed a different pair and these are fine.

I've seen that before and I think it's just a bit of char or something from the manufacturing process. I'm sure it's not mold. You can just scrape it off.

Chances are they were burned when they were precooked, I had some on the edges like that before, if your not sure its always better to throw them away, your health isnt worth a sh1tty hot pocket lol. I doubt its mold since Ive left bread in the freezer for quite some time without molding.

Hi...I'm a big fan of lean pockets(had a ham and egg for breakfast). I have received answers from the company via email when I have contacted them. Great company to deal with. Email them with your concern. I don't think its dangerous to eat but I'd rather you hear it from the manufacturers. Bon Apetit!

I have no idea, but you better throw that one away. Eeks... either just toss it and forget it or complain to the Hot Pockets company.

Don't eat it! I'm not sure what happened to it, but it shouldn't have freckles. Toss that Hot Pocket out.

It could've been left out in way too warm temperature, by the store you bought it from.
