Firstly lets correct some of the myths being tolde here.

Jehovahs witness's do knock on people's doors only because the bible ask's all christians to spread the word of Jesus, I guess it is like other christian religions having a part in educaction (religious studies), but they choose a more personal approach, it asked they will leave you be.

Secondly JW's are not adverse to fun, they actually encourage it as they know god wanted us to enjoy what he had created, people only believe this as JW's do not celebrate certain pagan based holidays.

In regards to the 144 000 to be saved , this is only the amount of people that will go to heaven and help Jesus rule the new kingdom, not the amount of people destined for enternal life on paradise on earth, JW's believe all that have lived there life according to the truth will be given this opputunity.

JW's is not a cult it is a christian religion and certainly will not control your entire life, they do however encourage you to remain true to christian values and place your god above anything else, as is written in the scriptures.

JW's are very open to being questioned, they knock on peoples doors everyday of the year and answer questions regarding faith, they probably answer more questions then most due to the amount of people they see every year,. the elders will be more then happy to discuss anything with you.

Really the only way you will know is by visitng a Kingdom Hall with an open mind, btw im not a jw i was just brought up with some beliefs, i am a gay man and have been disullusioned with religious groups but i strongly believe JW's are a great group of ppl looking for the truth

you have to be more specific than that... but i'll give you a simple overview of what they believe... for more information you may want to talk to your Jehovah's Witness friends, i'm sure they'd be happy to tell you about their beliefs They are a Christian religion. They believe in Jesus as God's (Jehovah's) son, he is separate from God, and not his equal but his first creation through whom everything else was created. They follow His teachings to the letter in most cases. They don't celebrate any holidays because they originated in Paganism which they don't want to associate with. They believe they are separate from "the world" or Babylon The Great which is everyone and everything separate from Jehovah's Witnesses. Other than to go in service, or from house to house to deliver their beliefs to others, they try to minimize their association with "the world". They follow the publications put out by The Watchtower Society. They believe that after Armageddon and The Great Tribulation the Earth will be made into a paradise where all of Jehovah's servants will live in a perfect world, they also believe that there are 144,000 anointed servants of Jehovah who will serve him in heaven at the right hand of Jesus. That is the best i can do right now, but if you want to know more, like i said talk to your friends.

If you really want to know the truth about us, go to our official website, but please don't take people's word who do not know personally. Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses is the greatest decision that I ever made, and I am sure that all the active Witnesses would agree with me. I have never had so much fun, so I think it is someones definition of fun that should be considered. This boyfriend who is one of Jehovah's Witnesses will treat you better than most other men would, and he will cherish you and he will be faithful to you, because he will always strive to live his life in a way that is pleasing to Jehovah. Following is a link to our beliefs, and then one to the official website...

Hello. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
I can tell you what it is like.
We are friendly to all & we are not judgmental.

Don't listen to ones who don't know. They don't attend the Kingdom Hall, if they are bad-mouthing us. They do this out of ignorance. (not knowing or caring to know)
Because if they did visit their local KH, then they would not be saying such mean, untrue things.
We worship God in a dignified way. We have a prayer & a song before & after worshipping. We NEVER take collections.
You will be welcomed with open arms at any congregation you visit.
WE ARE NOT A CULT. We are a UNITED people & we will all answer your questions with the same answers.
Please do visit the KH with him. See what our worship is all about & make your own mind up.

Anytime you have a question about us, just ask one of us.
or visit THE ONLY OFFICIAL SITE OF JW'S:
http://www.watchtower.org/ if you get your info anywhere else, they will bash us & spread lies.

a lot of people ask these questions: http://www.watchtower.org/e/jt/index.htm?article=article_03.htm

this is really not the best place to have your question answered. As you can see from all the prejudice you have already received.People are ignorant to what the Bible really contains and thus take it out on Jehovah's people who live their lives strictly by its guidelines.
Firstly Jehovahs Witnesses do not date those who are not in the truth. So your union is already in trouble. If your 'boyfriend' is involved with Jehovah's Witnesses why not ask him to brief you with our beliefs. He should have a 'reasoning book'that outlines most of our beliefs in it.
There is too much to cover on this website. But in all honesty if this friend of yours is a Witness your relationship with him will not go far.
The Bible clearly warns of such unions.

people who know nothing about us will tell tells. we are not a cult. if we where, we would be living all together. we live in our own homes and come and go just like you. we are families, mothers, fathers, and children. many work in the community. a cult does not work. yes we do not celebrate holidays because they are man made. we do give gifts during the year and have parties. we even go to the beach or parks, or amusement parks.. a cult does not do that. we love our neighbor as ourselves. our kingdom halls are open to anyone, yes many don't have windows not because we are hiding anything, my kingdom hall does have windows. the reason some do not have windows because people are mean and break them in bad neighborhoods. we do not have a plate that we pass around but have boxes for money in the back, if you want to give. you don't have to. please go and enjoy the meeting. the brothers and sisters will welcome you and make you feel welcome. see the website at www.watchtower.org for yourself

Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians who understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite

That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

Hmm. I would think that your boyfriend would be the first to explain to you the religion. But maybe his parents are JWs and he is just going because of them. Still, your best answer should come from a Jehovah's Witness - not a bunch of people who only know what the have heard about them. So, let me tell you.

I find it quite tragic that people like so many people make such belligerent statements about Jehovah's Witnesses. Who are they to say what WE believe and don't believe, . . . it's so very hateful. But people fear what they do not know.

Jehovah's Witnesses are normal people who have been taught from the Holy Scriptures the truth. So we follow Jesus' command at Matthew 28:19,20 to try to teach people. That's all.

However, in order to teach people what we have learned from the study of the scriptures, we knock on doors, meet people at the marketplace, and go wherever people are. We sometimes discuss what they have learned from their religion and take them to the Bible to provide them answers. People don't like to see this.

We try to lead clean, wholesome lives and sometimes just this condemns the lifestyles of so many who call themselves Christians. Jesus said that his followers would be persecuted because we don't sink to the same level of debauchery that some do.

Many of the teachings are not what are common in Catholicism and other faiths. So, it could be unusual to hear some of these things at first. But it's the truth from the Bible and it is up to you to research and decide for yourself what is fact/fiction.

We DO celebrate all the time - baby showers, bridal showers, weddings, anniversaries, good report cards, graduations, . . . normal stuff. But we abstain from celebrations that God does not approve.

Holidays and birthdays must be a HUGE deal to everyone. Maybe you should ask your boyfriend's parents to explain why Witnesses do not engage in these celebrations. I'm sure they'll be happy to share this with you if you sincerely want to know.

why not go and see for your self? I'm pretty sure a lot of people who hates JW's would post lies. So better to see it yourself.
